Me too! I've been waiting for a form like the 2610 but with 3D mapping. Now. Where did I stash that extra $1000 bucks?????

What about Sonora, CA?
What about Sonora? Do you have a traffic issue in Sonora :D Just think all the money you save by not having to buy one of these GTM 10 FM TMC traffic receiver! ;)

Funny thing is yesterday I drove up Hwy 17 using all 6 of my nav systems to help a friend with his bike, and my Pioneer XM traffic showed the portion that was slow traffic and where it was freed up again and where it slowed down again, the bad part is I have to option to take but straight up on Hwy 17, so is kind of like getting in an accident and someone take the picture of it and tell you "Hey, this is a real dangerous area and you should avoid it, see the accident" What good is it when you are in the traffic and there is no other option to take.

I guess it's great if you can take an alternative route, but for now, I guess you kind of have to just drive and say "Boy, the XM traffic is working great because I can confirm there is a traffic issue when there is one!" ;)

2720 Review:

Pretty freakin' cool. GREAT touch screen and VERY visable. Pleasant text-to-speech voice.

However, it appears that the unit has NO rechargable battery. Has to get power from either the DC in the car/bike, or AC in the house. No taking it into the resturaunt to play with it.

And, so far, I can't get Microsoft Streets and Trips to recognize the unit and there was no 'trip planning' software DVD with the package. I don't have the 'traffic' option yet.

(CAVEAT: there could be some 'operator error' issues involved here....)

I do want to be able to pre-plan a trip/select the roads I want, and upload to the unit...might have to find a work-around.

but...great service from Rick, fast delivery and great communication. It's a very cool tool, uhm..toy...

Anyone looking into this GPSMAP 376C

pt-gpsmap376c01a.jpg

Comes with built in XM radio

"With a subscription to XM WX Satellite Weather's "Master Mariner package", users can see continuously-delivered weather on the unit’s high-resolution 256-color sunlight-readable TFT display. Vital weather data, such as NEXRAD radar, forecasts, and current conditions is graphically displayed directly on the unit — so you can spend more time enjoying the water and less time worrying about the weather. "

The Garmin 376c is pretty much like the 276c except with XM WX Satellite Weather's.

If you need it, get it, but most maynot need it. ;)

Thank you for contacting Garmin,

The routing on the 2720 is all performed on the unit itself, afraid we can't

transfer routes from another source.

Subject: 2720 Mapping software

Hi..I just recieved my new 2720 and I love it!!!

However, one thing I'd like to do (especially for motorcycle touring), is to

map out a journey/roads on something like Microsoft Streets and Trips (or

similar Garmin software???), and be able to transfer that info to the 2720.

Is this possible?

thanks!!!

Does this mean I can't plan my route in the comfort of my own home and download it? Yuck. Even though the Garmin Mapsource kinda sucks, I love being able to save/plan/experiment with routes on my PC and then download to my 2610 once I get them right. This seems like a giant step backward, and might put me off upgrading to the 2720 (which otherwise seems _very_ cool).

good lord :( NOT what I intended to have to do after spending $800.

But..I guess I'll give it a shot.

Of course...I loaded the USB drivers, plugged the GPS in (because with the 2720 you CAN upload some POI files...but even THOSE details are sketchy...), and, of course, got a big ol' 'COM PORT NOT FOUND' error message.

:eh:

maybe I'll wait for the MAC version :)

Indeed..for what it is, the 2720 is VERY VERY cool. The touch screen is amazing. The clarity of the screen rocks. The text-to-speech is VERY clear!

The only thing that's bad is not being able to upload a trip that you create yourself with roads you choose.

During some down time this weekend, I'll try and program a small trip 'by hand', using a regular map (Or MS Streets and trips), and program up some way-points on small backroads I know of around here. I'll see how well it does.

It did help me find a gas station last week (although, the first one I tried to find ended up in a residential area).

I wouldn't be surpized if Garmin does a software update at some point. This unit is WAY too cool to NOT have the programable flexibilty of some of its lesser models.

Subject: RE: GARMIN MapSource Unlock Registration

Thank you for contacting GARMIN International. I would be happy to help you

with this!

Good morning! I would like to advise you of something that is in the

works here right now. In the next couple months we will be adding City

Navigator NT v7 to the website to order. There will be no charge for this.

Once you have it you will be able to load routes from the computer to the

unit. I would recommend keeping a keen eye on the website for this as we do

not have a set date that it will be added. We currently do not have this

software, but are working on it. Thank you for your time!

I don't think there is any restriction with any auto-routing Garmin GPS of building routes in MapSource and loading them on the GPS. The problem lies in whether the GPS then must recalcuate the routes on the GPS and possibly come up with a different route than MapSource.

I have a 60CS and it always recomputes every route I download. But it is typically identical to the one computed in MapSource, so it's really not a huge deal.

I don't know what variances you might get with this particular unit when it recomputes a route you download from MapSource.

As I understand it, the problem with the Quest 2 is that the unit ships with a pre-loaded version of City Select and doesn't include the map database on CD. So you have to buy separately a CD version of City Select if you want to build routes in MapSource and use them on the Quest. It works fine, but you have to essentially buy City Select twice - once built into the price of the GPS and another time to be able to use it in MapSource.

That is good news. Well done dkgross!

I may be in the market for a GPS in 4-6 months, and the 2720 is a leading contender, especially if it will download routes from mapping programs on a PC.

Now, I still need to look more at the Iway and Tom Tom.

Decisions, decisions.

I downloaded my trip to Yosemite and back, My 276c asked to re-route and I said "Yes"............ It re routed me more direct........ around the block!

I just stopped it, restarted the route and said "NO"! That time it accepeted the route with no problems.
