1343667128[/url]' post='986971']Since we will be crossing the Golden Gate bridge and this will be my first time, I will be stopping at both ends for the photo ops so if that doesn't float your boat, please go on ahead without me. I'm usually pretty efficient about these stops so know that if you do want to join me, it won't be a very long break. I realize this is old hat for many of you and you'd probably rather keep going but it's the highlight of the trip for me.

If you want some even more spectacular views, take the Sausalito exit (just past the turnout for the north side vista point), turn left under the freeway, take the first right onto Conzelman Road and drive up the road a bit - full view of the bridge and the SF skyline. :yahoo: Continue on to the top where it turns to a one-way road and either turn around and go back down or continue on through the Marin headlands area (McCullough and Bunker Rd then through the tunnel, turn RT to get back to 101). Well worth the time, imo! B)
I see where your talking about and I'm sure your right, that would be worth the time. Thanks Tyler!

Has anyone thought about a ride on the Mattole Road??

The forecast has morning clouds/drizzle so I think one of the afternoons Ladybug and I plus anyone else interested will ride to the Lost Coast and hang out at the beach with the cows for a while.

I prepped my wife about the road conditions, having ridden Mattole rd. many times and just in May on my KTM it has not gotten any smoother

but it is always worth the ride.

We will be there Thursday afternoon sometime. Doug

Tyler saved me getting on Google Earth and getting all those directions nice and clear--cuz I was just about to post the same thing. That's one of the most spectacular views of the city, plus it's a really short distance off 101--even if it sounds a little complicated. It's not. Good job, Ty. Enjoy the Gathering, all of you.

Riding a motorcycle across the Golden Gate Bridge is always (I have had the pleasure seven or eight times) a grin-inducing experience. Michelle, you are gonna love it!

Looks, now as if I will be in good old Gualala on Wednesday night. Still unsure about Tuesday.

Richard, please scratch Valerie from the list of attendees. Her hand has not healed well enough since the surgery to enable her to make this trip.

On the other hand, my friend Mark is riding down from Seattle to join us in Eureka. He already knows a few of the players and he shared several rides with TWN and me up in Canada, as well as in Washington and Socal. He had also hoped to be in Castlegar but mechanical problems (yes it is an HD not an FJR) and really lousy weather kept him away although he was able to catch up with MadMike and I after NAFO.

Christy and I may hit that on the way in on Thursday. Staying in Clearlake Weds night.

Sylvia and I launch Tuesday AM as well. Yakima is our target for tomorrow night and somewhere around Ashland Oregon for Wed night. As little slab as possible is the mantra!
If you are around here give me a shout. 541-536-8556. If you end up going down 97 take hwy 66 from Klamath falls to Ashland. From there you can jump on the slab to Yreka and take 96 west along the Klamath river to Willow Creek and then 299 to the coast. See Ya there or somewhere.
That is indeed the plan Raymundo - Sylvia has not seen the NorCal scenic byways yet from the FJR! When are you guys planning to head out?

For all you folks that may not be familure with our lovely weather here in Eureka!, today is the first day in about two weeks the sun has made an appearance. the high temp has peaked out about 61 deg. with lots of heavy wet fog in the mornings and late afternoons. Now, go inland 20 miles over the first set of hills, and the sun will be out and blazing hot, high 90's, So pack some clothes and be prepared for lots of free air conditioning!

Oh, and somebody please bring me cold beer!

FWFE

PS, for the folks arriving up 101 from the south, the Avenue of the Giants will provide you a nice curvey ride on the old highway in the Redwoods, but wait until you get up to Meyers Flat before getting on the Avenue, south of Meyers Flat is kinda boring. Riders arriving on 101 from the north, be sure to pay attention to the Elk advisories from Crescent City south, several large herds that may be on or near the highway.

Oh, and somebody please bring me cold beer!
Huh?? I read you were providing a keg of Surly's favorite.

Think you can make it all the way to the Red Lion Eddie?

Friday night, Sea Grill??
Doug, Friday night @ the Sea Grill sounds good to me! there is the mixer Friday night, I guess we can have a late dinner after the mixer, I can make reservations for, say 8:30 for 3? or 4? What do you think?

Forgot about the mixer, how about Thursday or Sat. night? I don't care as long as we eat there one night-Yum Yum.

Is it within walking distance of the hotel we're staying at?? If yes, can you accommodate two more? :D
It's about 12 blocks (.9 mile) so that makes a nice walk or a cab if we want. And yes Tyler, the more the better.

6:30 works for us. Work? Don't start cussing.

Perhaps an informal post about who wants to join us would give you a better idea on who wants to eat some of the best sea food on the north coast. (ain't cheap).

PM sent

Damn Doug & Eddie.

Not only have you guys got me jonesing to be somewhere I can't, but now I'm hungry too.

Okay. I've booked! See you folks there!
And it looks like my son, Aaron, will be able to come along with me! :yahoo:
Awesome!! B)

So I was poking around some of the local roads. Given it's supposed to be around 100+ degrees in Weaverville, thought it might be good to say further west closer to the coast. So here's what I came up with... has anyone ridden any of these roads (Alderpoint, Van Duzen Rd)?? Eddie??? :D

I have ridden that route, no center line and it's really bumpy with short sections of gravel due to landslides that most likely will not be repaved-ever.

Not much fun on the Feejeer however the KTM liked it.

I doubt it would be enjoyable on your Spyder or most any street bike but then again that has never stopped me from riding a new road.

OM just LOVES those goat trails.

I'm sticking to the coast while up there for the cooler temps.

Hasving ridden most paved roads in that part of Ca., feel free to PM me with any route questions. Doug
