Made it in about 6:30. Mark, our new Harley Guy followed us to Lapine and latter wished he had gone to the casino. On the way down from Crater lake the sky started getting dark and there was lightning in the distance. Part way up 97 I stopped and asked Mark if he wanted to suit up for rain and he said "It's only 40 miles so why bother". It turned ugly from there with rain , lightning and marble sized hail. There were a few cars in the ditch but with no place to hide I kept rolling and Patti and Mark followed behind.

Damned hail hurts like hell in mesh gear and Mark was not having fun wearing his Harley style helmet. I was as scared as I have been in some time but we made it home and got dried out and fed. No pictures but a few welts from the hail.

Was a good gathering and big thanks to Richard for setting it up.

Next on the agenda is the Reuben Run so get your shit together and head for Lapine for food and frolic.

Uneventful trip home compared to some of you guys but fun. Sunday drivers brought out the Bugnater in me without the paperwork along Hwy 128. A BIG thanks to Richard for putting this together and dog tags.

Mattole Rd looking north. I thought it was great fun...Christy not so much. :eh-smiley:

Mike was rolling a little slow this weekend. Hope Teri gets to feeling better, for pictures sake. :bleh:

Thanks once again for letting this Viffer Lady crash the party! Fantastic company and fantastic riding!

Richard, thank you for putting this together and the dog tags, my first official FJR swag! :yahoo: FWFE, Thanks so much for showing us around Eureka on Saturday! Loved the varied scenery and architecture! Doug & Gayle, so fantastic to get to know you, look forward to riding again soon. Jill, next time we must visit more!

As always wonderful to make new friends and new memories in old places!

Wow. Thanks for sharing the photos...a great time was had it looks like.

Sorry Dougie got bit by the policeman's radar. What is it with tourists going 35 in a 55? When I was out there in June, I sure didn't drive like that!

Glad to see all had a good time...thanks for sharing.

Kudos to Richard for organizing this. :clapping: He got his reward on Saturday with GB winning all those track medals. :)

Funnest 10,000 meters I've ever watched. 2 guys training in Oregon going 1...2. :yahoo:

This 7-Day adventure sure did go by in a hurry. Richard, as always, you put together another great ride. It was great riding with everyone. Made a bunch of new friends and got to see many familiar faces from before. Although the last few hundred miles home was unforgivably miserable, the ride itself was great.

After all of this, DJBill and I decided to make the trip home in one fell sweep by leaving at 04:30 sharp Sunday morning. In the wee hours, diligently watching for Bambi and all of her relatives waiting for that unsuspecting motorcyclist to happen along, Mother Nature threw rain, fog, cold and extreme heat at us trying her damnedest to deter our attempt to make it to our respective destinations. Throw in what seemed to be countless attempts of LEO to bag us a high priced ticket to their annual Ball, we prevailed. Once we parted ways at the intersection of Hwy-58 and I-5 the temperature for me quickly went from a steady 101 to 112 by the time I reached home after 16 hours, 870 miles and a variation in temp of 61 degrees, I reached my home at 8:30pm (20:30). But riding the last couple hundred miles in the dark was fine, the temperature had finally dropped to a mere 112 as I reached my turn-off of I-40 and AZ Hwy-95. I probably added an hour or two to my trip, because once it reached 108 dropping out of the Tehachapi mountains, stops to pour water over ones head become much more frequent.

Home safely. I hope the rest of the Socal contingent have uneventful trips the rest of their ways home.

Thanks to Richard, Eddie and the others who organized the event and thanks to friends, new, old, and those in between, for making it yet another memorable FJR event. Much has already been said throughout the years about how this community formed and how it sustains itself ...... but, I'll be damned if it hasn't enriched my life.....and, yes I know that it'll likely work out that way in either event.

What he said! Got home safely, thank goodness. Very challenging ride from Monterey to the OC, and the icing on the cake was the LA traffic. Great weekend, or should I say FABULOUS!!!!

Here's a few more pictures of the fabulous riders...

Mr. FabCarver himself preparing for a double one finger wave.

On Friday while Mrs. Bug and others walked the town and cruised the bay I did a nice 310 mile loop which included running up Hwy 96 to Happy Camp. Take a good look at this picture, notice anything strange?

See the guy on the Quad riding on the Hwy? He was running 45-50 and passing over the double yellow on curves  and didn't really have the power to do it. After one such pass he cut off on a gravel road just in front of the truck he just passed - real wild!

Then a few miles later I see some smokey condition ahead- not good.

There was a string of spot fires for at least 5 miles. Don't know how it started but was no doubt man made. The Nat. forest fires were just starting to show up but I estimate the fires had been burning for hours as there were burnt logs that rolled down the hillside. The road was closed the next day and we saw fire crews rolling in 2 days later while riding home. What a mess.

How things looked to me a few hours later with a slight blur....

Big thanks again to Richard for throwing this event together, we had a ball!
