Thanks Silver spirit! You solved the mystery!

Also Thanks to Dave!First confirmed that there is a catalyst!

So,now confirmed 100% that the Gen2 has catalysts in the mufflers..!

Well, now remains to see the differences inside the manifold pipes Gen1 vs Gen2.

We have a photo of an opened catalyst box of a Gen1 and we need to open a Gen2 manifold pipes catalyst box..

I'M KIDDING!..

Yes, thanks to Dave. But he wasn't the first. You see, it may have been before your time here but this was all covered ad nauseum several years ago with the same cast of characters and dim-witted doubting Thomases.

And back then, not only did someone visually confirm (no photo) that there was a cat in the exhaust, but somebody else weighed Gen I vs. Gen II exhaust pipes and noted the heavier weight in the Gen II. For most of us intelligent and enlightened folk, that was enough to solve the mystery.

My guess is that in about four years this will come up again and once again, RadioHowie and HotRodZilla will be the voices of idiocy. If they both hadn't bought me beers in the past, I would have nothing to do with the ugly, smelly, and generally offensive jackasses.

''My guess is that in about four years this will come up again and once again''

For this reason i think that it should be pinned with a photo..

So here is a non-NEPRT question for this NEPRT thread. What would be the effect of replacing only one muffler on a Gen I with a Gen II muffler? Would the difference in back-pressure affect the engine in any way, or will the crossover chamber equalize the pressure?

Doubt it would make any difference since it is 4 into 1 into 2. You might get more flow out of the Gen I can vs the Gen II can but the four cylinders won't see any difference in terms of exhaust backpressure.

Or noted in the FJR Comparison Matrix with two asterisks...one of which says that RH and HRZ should be ignored as jackasses on this subject. :)

...and done. Will be in update after Yamama releases 2015 model info.

Hey, whoa there fellas. As usual, Skooter is full of ****. I don't remember EVER seeing a picture like the one SS just posted. I do recall half-assed attempts at sticking cameras in cans and the claiming, "OMG, I see something, it must be a CC."

I am also aware of the weight difference, but who knows what they changed. Until recently, the FJR got heavier every year. All those increases were not from extra CCs being randomly added.

So, like Howie, I'll say that looks like a CC in the pipe to me, so I will graciously concede. What impresses me is someone FINALLY proved it instead of just blurting out BS conjecture. So, SilverSpirit, thank you.

What gets me is this: Why in the Hell would they add another set of Cats, as all these motors are the same. It's gotta be some EPA thing and maybe a way to keep from going too lean at the ECU while still passing emissions. I still can't see those cats working fully that far down the pipe, but this does explain the butt-dyno feel that my bike pulls stronger with tge TB's pipes.

Go figure!

And to everyone who'll accept any and everything based on a blurb on a product-heavy website, there's a guy in New Mexico who'd like to sell you a bridge. You can pay for it with your Nigerian bank windfall.
I would just ask that other than the drain plug, what ever has been incorrect on Yamaha's website? We have 11+ years of experience to validate. Just what exactly has been off?

Ya got me. I've admitted my error and subsequent acceptance of the fact. What more can I do?

[sarcasm]Well........I'm thinking you, HRZ, and Mihalis still need to take angle grinders to YOUR exhausts and confirm for the good of the forum there are not unicorns nor fungus installed from the factory. We appreciate pictures of course.[/sarcasm]

Good on you RH. ;)

Well, I'll gladly take a tool to my stored pipes. BUT, I'm gonna need a GenIII to compare them with, just to confirm the absence of Cats and fungus. Bring your bike by Matt. We'll make a day of it, and your machine will sound bitchen with a newly opened pipe.

You're welcome
If nothing else is remembered in this thread I hope this one point and post is. Not one of us got off our ***** and did anything about this EXCEPT Silver Spirit. Not the **** stirrers that tried to spin others into doing something, not the reactionary whiners that called the **** stirrers on their **** activities, nor the lookie-lous watching everybody else did anything except possibly armchair quarterback.

YOUR effort to answer (or probably re-answer with extras pictures as Skooter nailed the other point in this thread) is an example of the best of this forum.

Thank you sir.

So can a thread be promoted once relegated to NEPRT, or is even a good outcome and new information condemned permanently?

Tom,

Your or silver spirits best bet is to hit up the Gen 2 bin o facts chair to include. I already will add to the matrix.

No problem...If I make any changes, I'll be skipping Gen II in favor of Gen III...but you already know that.

It wasn't my question anyway.

Zillas been sampling the moonshine bottle again. Somebody talk to that boy. Unicorns cats next it will be the aliens put them in.

Sheeeez,

Dude! Don't be getting all serious, apologetic, and accountable on me. I *really* don't like you that way. Stick to your <somewhat> lovable ******* self, mm k?

Cripes! Yer like a sober Bust, or a non-nerdy Iggy, or a smart HRZ, or even worse - like soft Gen III paint!
