While I do presently have SS screws in my windshield, it is mostly because I change the shield a ridiculous number of times each year based on weather. However, I do not condone anyone else following my stupidity.

The conventional wisdom is that you should continue to use the plastic shield screws for safety reasons. In the event of a get-off or (ever possible) deer strike, having a breakaway shield could mean the difference between a non-event and a ride to the hospital in the screaming red wagon.

FWIW, I have never ever heard of the plastic screws breaking while under way (without a crash).

Try this first, grab a couple of 3/8" Nuts at your local hardware store (make sure they are around 8mm thick) and use them like the skyway spacers... scroll down to see where they are installed: https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index.php?showtopic=24226

Also, make sure to get some M6 x 1.0 x 25mm bolts to replace the stock silver bolts.

Bam, $3 upgrade that works wonders!

(Get Stainless parts for about $6 if your bike sees any type of moisture)

I installed tuning blocks today. It's amazing how a little spacer can change the personality of a motorcycle. Really nice.

The center bar that the tuning block screws screw into is aluminum or aluminum alloy. Some how I got the impression that it was steel. So non-magnetic stainless steel screws will not cause galvanic reaction.
