very interesting reading about the "new" Iphone.

here

few interesting point are

GPS shows where you have been, no turn by turn

crap battery life with the G3 networks

software is upgradeable on older Iphone, so why buy a new one?

Wi-Fi is still better than the new network

and the G3 coverage is "limited"

still think the apple idea on ipods and iphone having sealed batteries is kina lame (if there is no USB port near by your more or less fukd, unless you buy some overpriced car charger or wall outlet that should have came with the dam thing any way....)

G3 is fast. WiFi is more limited in my area than G3 unless you pay access fees for the WiFi.

Battery life on all G3 products isn't very good. My cell phone will suck the power down in 1/3rd the time if I use it to surf some info (like address lookup through google, etc.).

If you don't have the need, don't upgrade. Heck, I don't need the phone or the camera, so I have an iPod Touch and love it.

see i actually like the iphone, it does the pod function and surfs the web. knowing it has a wall charger is nice (just wish all the ipods where that way). its only down fall is the network, for me anyway. ATT has some of the worst coverage area that i know of, unless you live in dense populations, then it works fine. i think of they released a Verizon version they would sell more of them, but then you have to deal with VZN programming garbage (which can be removed for some phones anyway). where i work only VZN phones are the only ones that work in the building, and i have only lost reception a few times, near twisty mountain areas that are rich with metallic ore.

I am not really impressed with the iphone I have. And it really seems like they are trying to get every last nickle and dime from you because it will cost you $15 more a month for service. My phone screen is cracked from my fall down but before I replace it I want to see what the software up-grades for the gen 1 iphone will be.

keep the current version of the OS and jailbreak it. you'll be happier.

I've been part of the iPhone 2.0 software beta with my Gen I iPhone for about two months now. The software upgrade is all I cared about since the Exchange Server is my ball and chain. Now that my iPhone is a true business device, I'm a happy camper.

Having come off a 3G Windows Mobile device, I'm used to 8 hour battery life and the GPS and 3G will not by themselves be enough for me to upgrade to the Gen II. This is mostly due to the fact that Safari on Edge beats IE Mobile on 3G speed-wise. Also, I don't need GPS in my phone as I'm swimming in Garmins.

I think the Gen2 is a huge improvement....!!!

cuz it actually works over here! :yahoo:

will wait till the hype calms down though, people here were camping out for a couple days in places....

Just heard on the news how they are having problems getting the new iphones activated at the store. Appears thier server is down. Thats one thing I hate about the new iphone. Why activate it at the store? Why do they want so much control on something you bought? And now people are having trouble with the new upgrade. We will see what happens when I get home tonight.

I am interested to see how third party apps will enable the iPhone 3G to inteface with my Starcom. True voice dialing/call answering, voice command for music playback, perhaps even voice command for google maps and GPS. I wouldn't mind having the thing mounted to my dash for these functions. I want to speak to the thing and have an old friend - The Talking Moose answer back ready to do my bidding.

I think that would be cool!

With the third party applications offered it's just a matter of time.
