In all their wisdom and concern for our well being the state says it will NOT raise the speed limit on eastern I-90 to 75mph along rural areas from George to Spokane. It is really nice to be loved and watched out for, not to mention the chance to contribute to state coffers.

That's too bad...you can actually do the speed limit on that stretch without bumper to bumper in that area.

Ha! I remember running that back in the day when the speed limit was FIFTY FIVE! And after a ticket or two, well you just can't imagine what it was like crawling along that whole stretch at 55. Most people back east won't quite understand, but this is a 130 mile stretch of divided multi-lane freeway that is almost straight with only three small towns along the whole stretch... George has a population of like 12 people, Ritzville is around 1,000 and Moses Lake is the "big city" with only a couple of on/off ramps and a population of 20,000. That's it... I mean a traffic jam along there means you have to deal with 20 or 30 cars for all of a mile or two. Seriously, there is literally nothing out there but scrub brush and the occasional coyote.

Thank you, I am pretty much computer illiterate when it comes to stuff like that. Pretty much keep it to 70 ,75 on I90 but the cushion would have been nice if I hit 77 or 78 on a downhill.

When I was going to Flight School at BBCC back in '65 I used to fall asleep regularly on that strech of I-90 while returning from a weekend with my gf in Seattle. Nice gentle, sloping shoulders that were mostly fine sand. Always managed to stop the Black Beetle before anything catastrophic happened. Never had any problem staying awake for the rest of the trip back to Moses Lake. Young, dumb and lucky.

Living in the Tri-cities, the speed limit is 70 on 395 up to Ritzville (a road with intersections and some overpasses). I do Ritzville to Spokane regularly and the extra speed would be nice. I guess the liberal politician on the west side of the state are more interested in pushing there green house gas initiatives.

WAIT......... there's a speed limit ??

The last time I came back from a trip to Spokane and headed toward Seattle I let a BMW go screaming past me. I jumped in behind them about a half mile back and they never slowed down below 85 or so. We screamed all the way back and they finally slowed down over by Microsoft to about 70 and kept that up until turning on to I-5 in Seattle. They went South and I went North.

I try to never participate in threads with even a whiff of political content, but both articles had the quote: "an estimated $8.3 million in additional annual safety costs". I am genuinely curious as to what these costs could be.

I couldn't find any more information with a quick search. Any Washingtonians know more?

Is that what you do? Guess?

I guess you could put your guess up your ***.
