I'm planning a few multi day trips this summer and my GF, whose never been overnight on a bike, will be joining me. She has been stressing about having to pack lightly. My 2013 has the saddle bag liners so I took a ride over to the dealer to grab them off the bike so she could do a packing dry run. My dealer is storing the bike at their sister location which I'd never been to.

On my way there I had the brainstorm of just taking both saddle bags home, not just the liners. When I arrived at the dealer I told them I wanted to take my saddle bags off the bike. He led me to the storage area, I popped the saddle bags off using the key on the bike and away I went. He never asked my name, asked for proof I owned the bike, nor had me sign anything saying I took the saddle bags.

This spring when I pick up the bike HEY WHERE THE HELL ARE MY SADDLE BAGS??

I'd be interested to hear the reaction. How do the pitch the storage agreement, "heated, secured, etc, etc."...

If they are on their game, there's a waiver or release of liability of some sort in the fine print of the agreement.

If your GF is like my wife you will need all four saddle bags to carry all her stuff. Nevermind she will not use 3/4 of it.

When you get all 4 bags installed please post.

Perfect learning opportunity! Since she doesn't know any better you can stress the pack light / pack right theme when traveling on two wheels or...OTOH let us know how mounting the four bags works out for ya!

Good luck!

Different subject....but if you want to pack as much as possible....leave the saddle bag liners home. Use zip lock bags, lay the saddlebags on the bed or floor, pack each side, slam them shut, and don't open again until its time to unpack.

Dealers may be stealers, but buyers are definitely liars.

Who but the owner would drive to a storage facility and ask for his saddlebags?

Give the poor shmo a break.

Mayne due to the "missing" saddlebags you can bargain for a top box instead. Sounds like you are going to need it.

Giving up my saddlebag for the misses? Oh hell no

, the misses is riding her CanAm Spyder (actually a car in disguise, but she'll learn one day

) so she has like 1 trunk, 2 saddlebags and a top case, if that's ain't enough, beats me....I pack light to begin with!

But that's a bold move from the dealer, I guess I'd be asking for that guys head on a silver platter, to have Joey Blow walking up and getting stuff off my or for the sake of the matter any bike......

Have fun in da spring beating da hell outta that stealer.....

If it comes to that she can follow (or try) in the car. :)

My title of this post is to have some fun at the dealers expense come spring. However, I'm not out to get another set of cases from him. A couple of posts seem to think that's what I'm doing but rest assured I'm not that type of guy.

Packing for two is challenging, especially here in New England where you need to bring gear for both cold and hot riding on the same day. My pillion packs the bike in a subtractive process, she brings everything to the bike and then starts setting aside things until it fits on the bike. I do not recommend this process!

You may want to consider something like a Nelson Rigg Dry Bag for the extra cargo capacity plus it makes enough of a back rest to help your pillion feel secure. On some trips of a week or more I ditch the OEM trunk and use a soft bag for more flexibility and storage room.

Thanks Ionbeam I've been looking at WP bags and had not seen this one. She'll do fine with the bag you reccomended and one saddle bag. I just need to convince her that laundry can be done while away from home.

If you want packing tips, you might spin off a new thread... probably ought to search to see if there is one first so the mods don't get all flustered.

Short version: for riding days, you need, at most, two changes of clothes each (besides what you're wearing). For destination days- USPS, general delivery to a post office near where you're staying; for the trip back, mail home your dirty laundry.

After the wedding in CA we shipped our marrying clothes home. A few days later we shipped a box of 'used' clothing articles home. RING, RING, it's UPS with a big box, oh boy! Oh ****! I forgot about sending this stuff home. Now it has aged a week or so in a sealed box...

Also, if you see something you absolutely must have like a 75 pound marble bird house from Rock of Ages Monuments in VT ask the nice people if it can be shipped. Most places will arrange shipping for you.
