Just got back from Arkansas. You don't really notice the extra work in the twisties once you get used to the darkside. It is more work, it just becomes 'normal' to you. Until you get on someone's girrly strom and you're like WHOA! this thing tosses about easy. ;)

 
But. but, Why?

Exxacery why buy a bike that handles like a bike should and turn it into an evil handling dog worse than a Hardly.

If you had a side car then I would say go for it but not on a sweet handling FJR

The reason the tire is a tight fit esp to bead up is the fact that the land where the bead sits is actually 0.5 inches bigger in diameter than a car rim .

I wish just ONE of these doom'n'gloomers could give one iota of quantitative proof without a smidgen of opinion, that this is a bad idea.

The fact that Eric is riding the Dark Side every day, without destroying himself or the universe, IS proof your opinions are worth about as much as a set of dingo's kidneys. <_<

 
FWIW, I now have 12,500 miles on the CT and it's wearing evenly. While there is wear, it's not even close to the wear bars. Probably not even half way there yet.

As for those that don't believe it works well in the twisties, I will tell you it's pretty darn acceptable for me. Ever been to Arkansas? Like Mena, say the Talimena Scenic Drive? Linky Just got back from a little ride there and had plenty of fun on AR's roads. Including the mud ones. ;) Even managed a good finish in the Spank Rally too. I don't think the CT held me back any, but it sure helped at times.

As a spokesperson for the Dingo Kidney Association, I feel it necessary to point out the fundamental kidneyism in your remark. This is no place to air your stereotypes and prejudices. Your comparison between anti-dark-side sentiment and dingo kidneys is odious. The first step toward getting better is for you to admit you are a kidneyist and confront your fear.

I parked next to you in the garage of the Arlington in Hot Springs. I immediately got on my phone to tell a FJR riding friend of mine that there was one with a car tire on the back. He would not believe me.

i ride in presidential escorts in ireland on FJR's and that pic is going up on the wall in the station

Never fear dude, they go great with green peppers and scrambled eggs, sorta like scrapple. :p

Car tyres on bikes are old hat , **** , Harleys had square profile Corker tyres last century, its where they belong.

I tried a VN 1500 with and without a car tyre 10 years or more ago. It was a sloppy **** box handling cruiser with bike tyres transformed into a dangerous **** box full stop.

Fine if you ride flat staight dry roads.

If motorcycle where meant to have square profile tyres then Moto GP bike would have them , that I am sure of.

Again, read the whole thread. I never said this was the best option for everyone, or even said it was better than a moto tire for everyone, only that it works better than expected and suits my needs well.

I do have to say, I must have missed your name on the Moto GP rider roster. And heck, I've never seen you on a Moto GP bike, and neither have any of your mates. I don't see race tires on street bikes either, except for total posers. :rolleyes:

And I'm pleased we're not on the same ride too. My opinion is based on my current experience with my FJR, not outdated experience on someone else's bike with old technology.

Whata ******, so sure of things he hasn't actually tried on a FJR. Never mind facts and actual experience to the contrary, if those Moto GP guys, most of whom are afraid to ride on the street, "because it's dangerous", don't use it, it's no good.

And hey, where in the heck did you get the idea that Yamaha R&D ever even tested a CT or CT profile tire on a bike? I don't know if they did or didn't, but I'd lay money that they never have. ;)

Impeccable logic. So, if cars were meant to have air conditioning, CD players, air bags, 4 doors, trunks, cruise control, heated leather seats, windshield washers, visor vanity mirrors, etc., then Formula 1 cars would have them?

I've been following this thread from Day 1 and nowhere has OCfjr expressed "an opinion" one way or another about car tires on the FJR. All he has done is installed a car tire on an FJR and proved for the last 12,500 miles that predictions of imminent death and "gone to hell in a handcart" handling are STUPID opinions.

I'll throw my hat into the ring as someone who has ridden a car-tired (or car-tyred for our friends across the pond) motorcycle. Last year while out on vacation with friends one of the riders ended up putting a car tire on the back of his Goldwing - we were out in the middle of nowhere on a Saturday night and that was all that was available. Long story short, when we got home he let me ride it around the block. It was different as OCfjr has described (more turn in require to get into the turn, etc.) but it did much better than I expected at both the low speed and high speed stuff (especially the high speed stuff).
