Got a ticket that says I was going 176MPH!

It's the ticket they give you at the end of your run at the Texas Mile.

It was the first time I tried a top speed run on my ZX14. Wow, it was so much fun. Sooooo much fun. Hitting the top speed was a thrill. But the best part was running wide open in 1st, 2nd and third to 11,000 RPM. It felt like the bike was going to jump out from under me.

It's addictive, though. Now, I'm considering a turbo bike to run next Spring.

Can you please tell us a little bit more about running on the airstrip? Like how much it cost, how you heard about it (friends, or a special program, etc) and how the run was set up?

It's pretty cool that someone has setup an old airstrip to be used as a full one mile dragstrip, with timer and all. It gives you a true realization of just how fast your vehicle (regardless of what it is) really is.

The fee is $200 to do as many runs as you want for 2 days. There are some mods that are necessary to run the bike (speed wiring of front forks and oil drain bolts, steering damper, kill switch and metal chain guard) that cost about $600. You need full leathers as well.

The Texas Mile runs twice a year. The Maxton Mile is similar.

The Texas Mile is pretty well organized and attracts bikes and cars. Most cars are performance oriented (Ferraris, Lamborghini, Porsche, Mustangs, Corvettes, GT40s, bitubo Mercedes, Viper etc) and many are modded with turbo or nitrous. I saw a twin turbo Supra hit 240+).

Most of the bikes are Busa and ZX14s. Most are modded. I saw a turbo busa hit 254 this spring. There was even one fat dude on a stock Harley Sportster who tried all day to hit 120 but only got to 114. My buddy ran his stock ZX14 this spring to 180 and then put nitrous on this time and took it to 196. He still wants to go again to hit 200.

The event attracts about 200 participants and another 400+ spectators (only $10 to watch). Motor homes line the taxiway and people sit on lawn chairs and watch the event. Spectators are allowed to walk along the staging line and see any of the vehicles up close.

It seems pretty safe. There were some blown engines (cars) and one blown radiator line on a turbo busa. One highly modified beautiful custom pickup went squirrely on the startup, hit the grass and rolled his vehicle multiple times completely destroying it. But his roll cage protected him and he walked away.

It costs about $600 to prep the bike to run the mile (speed wiring on certain bolts, steering damper etc). So, I only did this to the ZX14. One guy ran a Concourse 14. I only saw him once that day and did not catch his speed.

How did you mount the GoHero's?

The video was actually three separate runs with the camera mounted in different locations each time. The audio was from just one of the runs.

The low shots were mounted using a roll bar mount on a frame slider. Pretty secure, except during the facing backward shot the camera moved from facing backward to facing up (wind pressure moved it.)

The rider POV shot was suction cup mounted to the tank. I was worried about it coming off so I put a safety landard from the camera around my arm. But it stayed secure.

A little off topic here, but this video was "related" to your video. I cannot believe the Nissan GT-Rs are really this fast. Anyone know? I thought it was more the rider either being inexperienced or afraid of the bike's speed. Either way, amazing bikes and car:

Verrrry cool video... my VTX tops at a little under 120 with my big old 2-up windshield on it. Havent tried it with a smaller shield.

What, out of raw curiousity, is the top end on a feejer?
