Got My Antlers

Installed FZ-1 mirrors on my '07 Sunday. Holy crap, I can see now! Thanks to the folks on here with the ambition to post pics, tips, part numbers, etc. Original Yamaha parts from Zanotti Motors ran about $110 shipped.

And to the naysayers, go ahead and keep looking at your elbows. I'll take antlers on my bike instead of ending up as antlers on the car behind me.

I really like mine but find I need to fold them in for lane sharing. Worth it for the rear vision at other times.

I'm totally with you on this one. I put the FZ1 mirrors on my bike a couple weeks ago. I can't believe I waited so long. They look good, and I can finally see what's going on behind me. Shoulda done it sooner!

+4 I just put mine on about a month ago and I can't believe the difference they make. It's so nice to actually see what coming from behind. The view is so much better and I like the way they look too. Very clean and easy install as well.

I put my antlers on about a month ago, and yes, I can finally see behind me. However, the face of the mirror is much smaller, so I don't get as big of a view. Almost like part of the picture is cut off. I wonder how the stock mirrors with the mirror wideners would compare to the FZ1 mirrors?

I have the Twisted Throttle mirror extenders, and they look reasonably good. Definitely a major improvement over stock.... I didn't want those ugly antlers, and am quite happy with the extenders. Also a very easy install.

Been loving my antlers since installing them a couple of months back. The view to the rear is tremendous compared to the stock mirrors...can even check out any loads I have on the rear rack.

What bugs me is one would think the idiots at Yamaha could figure out that the OEM mirrors are too short and fix them. They make a semi-new color every year, but they're too stupid to make the mirrors better suitable for actually seeing something. No wonder getting safety recalls done takes so dammed long.

You have to remember some of us prefer them not too wide so we can filter through traffic more easily. It helps that I weigh in at about 147 lbs, so I'm not as restricted on my rear view as some of the "better built" amongst us

I went with the SW Motech extenders, which makes it even more irritating when you can say "goddamnit Yamaha, would just one more inch kill ya!?"

Every little helps, and yes, even with the "narrow" OEM mirrors I sometimes have to wiggle a bit to avoid clashing my mirrors with cars' ones.

Remember even Yamaha claimed one advantage of the GenII over the GenI was the slightly narrower mounting of the side cases.

oh on my Gen I, I know is my FZ1 mirrors don't hit while squeezing through an opening, my bags with get through unscathed as well

I like to think of my bike as some kind of bumble bee with big antenna (or other insect)

oh, I highly recommend you pick your choice of blind spot additions to round out your rear vision / protection

I dont have enough ice in my veins for lane sharing.

I'm 6ft, 190lbs and I really don't have a huge issue with the OEM mirrors enough to modify/replace them. Bringing in my elbows and shuffling in the seat to see behind me is all part of the experience.

I didn't like the antlers and went extenders, which provided me plenty of view behind me and still kept the sexy stock mirrors. I would extend again if need be!

That's exactly what I used to have to do. For the longest time I was actually ok with it. Like you, I figured it was just one of the quirks of owning an FJR.

I never really thought about it until one afternoon I was riding my mountain bike with my daughter following. I went to look back to make sure she was still close and I tucked my right elbow in and moved left. That's when I realized I had had enough. Muscle memory says a lot.

I would never go back to those bs OEM mirrors.

That's always been my method, but it doesn't work with the wife on back. So the "antlers" are a must if I want to see when riding two up.

+1. I found the Motech extenders work just fine.
