I am extremely new here, Got my FJR, signed up, bought a PCIII and some sliders, Introduced myself and did alot of reading on this great forum.

So I put together a 34 day tour of the US southwest from Seattle and back.

Then I quit my job today...oops

turns out I still have bills to pay, they really do not care about my new bike, and ambition to ride it a long way!

So, I pucker a bit about my decision, pull the fabric from the puckered area, and make a couple calls - having read the forum rules, and reading the posts gave me some ideas, so I called a couple of people and got a new job (more $ blah blah) and must start 10/20.

I ammended the great trip and will travel the coast from Seattle to LA and would like to know what areas of interest you might suggest along the way. I will take some pics and put them on the appropriate ride reports area.

This is the FJR specific area of the website, and I of course have an FJR specific question, so I do not want to get in to any trouble here. so I will ask, although you already know the question, it is a bit embarrassing, You are all shouting out the answer before I ask, but I consider you all friends here, before I know you, so...

what kind of oil do you like?

First, I would edit this post and remove that last line. Quickly. Second, there's an entire section that revolves (like a power door that never stops) around that topic.

Third, you have to read, search, read more and search....then ask. The Bin-o-Facts, use the google search method ( "SEARCH TERM site:fjrforum.com).

Next, you posted in an area that is for reports of great rides had. If you want to ask for routes, maybe start in the Regional section.

Finally, have thick skin...I'm being nice :)

He's right, he's being VERY nice.

Easy, easy..the oil was just a joke. sorry - I was giving some love to the folks responding to my intro.

sorry to confuse, I was asking about places to go on my quest.

guess it was the wrong area, time etc.

1.) Do you intend to stay on the coastal side of the trip?

If so, I'd think about getting below Seattle and just riding along the coast, since you have all the time you need. It could be foggy in sections but by late morning things warm up. In CA there are plenty of interesting roads that cross over the coastal mountains and back between Hwy 1 and Hwy 101.

2.) If you are considering a more inland route I'd think about riding Mount St. Helens and Crater Lake while in Oregon. Both are beautiful in very different ways.

3.) In Northern CA there are multiple technical highways. For example, Lookie here!

There are some awesome roads in the Sierra Nevada mountains, so you could ride Hwy 1 to Bodega Bay then cut across to the Sierras (Hwy 49 East to 395 South through Reno, Hwy 4 West to Hwy 49, South to Hwy 108 East, Hwy 395 South to Hwy 120 West into Yosemite) then cross back over the valley from Sonora (Hwy 152) and catch Hwy 1 @ Monterrey. You could sto at Hearst Castle and enjoy some of the East-West roads in that area....

So many possibilities.....

Really, really good thing you didn't post this on a Friday.

It has real dogpile potential. Don't be suprised if the admins move this to a different area. Such as Regional Ride Planning.

Spend some time around the Ventura, Santa Barbara county areas in CA.

Hwy 33, 150 in Ventura county.

San Marcos, Hwy 154 in Santa Barbara county past Lake Cachuma.

Hwy 1 thru Big Sur is excellent too.

Just to name a few.

Welcome to the chaos...AKA fjrforum.com

I made sure to get a car that has the same capacity and oil filter as the FJR. I just rotate the oil between the two. Have to add a quart once in a while, I usually use the cheapest stuff I can find. :p

I did the same thing last year! :clapping: :clapping: and I don't have any regrets. Put on 9000 miles from mid September to December. I'll do it again when I save up enough pennies. I figured out that it doesn't take alot of money to get by, when your not keeping up with the Jones's. If you make it to NM send me a message, maybe I can show you around some! Have a good one! :yahoo:

We have an old tractor on the farm that holds about 5 gals of oil

The tractor doesn't run no more so I just been draining out a gallon at a time

When that one is dry I'm going to the pile of old trucks - they don't run know more either

I think all these vehicles should be old enough that there wont be any of those harmful additives in the oil

I also installed a drain on my oil filter that way I can just wash it out with solvent and reuse

Welcome to the Forum

Suspected might be a joke. Well played. You'll do fine here as long as you ignore MM2. But just in case, try "3 in 1". Sold in small quantities, but the name says it all.

Enjoy the ride.

Mark

Thanks for the advice. I realize now I posted in the wrong area, but I am extremely simple minded.

I have decided to ride down the coast 1/101 with a wine stop in Napa, stop in sacramento and check on my almost worthless home, stop by the bank and remove a couple hundred shares of stock to afford a tank of gas and then back up the coast.

I have learned and will never ever ever make a joke or post in the wrong area again.

What tire pressure should I run up the coast road though?

"there are no stupid questions"

"Just stupid people"

Hey hotdog! Let us know when you might be coming down into the midsection of California. Some of us may be able to join up with you and act a guides on some of our great roads here. There are way too many to mention. I DO recommend Hwy 36 from Fortuna to Red bluff as long as weather conditions are dry and temps are above freezing.

Welcome. I think most people on this forum use AMZOIL . . .
