EscapeFJRtist visted on Thus. Panman [Kevin] and I visited with them Thus & Fri with them. Dave & Colleen are two very tough customers.
My hero's are their friends John & Sue and oldest son Dave and Colleen's sister Vickie, all who took turns make sure there was someone there 24 hours a day.

I would like be part of that home coming parade.

Remember they are pretty beat up, but the parade would be cool

Another day of physical therapy for Colleen. It is very taxing for her but she is making progress. David is essentially done with his phyical therapy training. Now its just a matter of time and hard work. He is much more talkative and engaged today. He's starting to sound a little like his old self again.

David's mom, Barbara, flys in from Texas on Sunday. She'll stay for three weeks. Colleen's mom and dad have been here since the beginning and are looking forward to having their kids home. Their plan is to stay for as long as necessary.

For those of you who are wanting to help with David and Colleen's ongoing care please stay tuned for when we transition over to the Google Groups site. The need for assistance is going to last for several weeks. How and what assistance we can offer to the family will change from day to day and week to week. Some of these needs won't truly be understood until they are home and settled in for a bit. Our desire is to assist the family but not overwhelm them. To this extent we're hoping the Google Group site will allow us to handle the ongoing evolution of care and provide opportunites for those of you eagerly waiting for a chance to jump in and help.

One of the biggest questions we're trying to address is the need for transportation to and from the doctor's offices and people who have the time to go along and help. A vehicle with a lift, set up to haul someone in a wheel chair would be ideal. If you have a vehicle like this or know one that is available for use in the Puget Sound area please contact John at john@mtviewcontracting.com."

It's Monday morning an we're still anticipating David and Colleen coming home today!!! Still waiting for one of the doctors to get out of surgery and sign off on their discharge but everyone is expecting it to be a formality. David was quite chipper and sounded more upbeat than at any other time in the past two weeks - I think he might be excited about getting home to some of his mama's good cooking!

Stay tuned - we'll try to post updates throughout their trip home."

You went in the drink to pull David out two weeks and two days ago about 4:30ish! :(

I'm glad they are coming home, and that both mom's are there to help out. Colleen is going to need a lot of help and some prayers wouldn't hurt either.

Latest on the ride home:

Monday, June 28, 2010 1:21 PM, PDT

They're on their way!!!

They just went through Moses Lake and are expected to arrive in Maple Valley around 4pm. Colleen is relatively comfortable and doing well. David's wheelchair was delivered to his house instead of the hospital in Spokane so he is having to endure a much less comfortable ride then what it should be. All in all they're doing okay and are hoping to not stop at all - David is calling the van the USS Neverdock.

The hospital beds are in and ready as well as a recliner for David. The moms are ready was well to get their kids home.

brings to mind the inevitable question, "are we there yet?"

They are getting close to Cle Elum so they're making great time. Expecting them around 3:45pm. They've asked for no visitors tonight please as they are very tired and will need some time to get settled in. After that everyone's welcome!

Sorry for the delay in posting an update, but David and Colleen are finally home!!!!! The trip went about as well as we could hope and they made great time. Not too much pain and discomfort. This was quickly forgotten in the joy of the homecoming. I got some great pictures which I'll post in a couple hours.

David and Colleen quickly got settled into more comfortable positions, Colleen in bed and David in a recliner, but when I left they both were getting back in wheelchairs so that they could have dinner at the table. David was able to move himself from on end of the house to the other in his wheelchair. You can really tell how happy they are to be home. Pain levels are way down. Colleen has only been taking Tylenol for the past couple days and David is not far behind. Another update soon with pictures."

Peeps,

First and foremost, thanks for all the prayer, support, warm wishes, flowers, donations to EMT, cards, and all the love in general. I finally read through the forum topic and caring bridge posts last night and was absolutely moved. Of course, I have been aware of the outpouring through our many friends but to take it all in at once was lot to take. Thank you.

I have lots of thoughts and commentaries about the ride, accident, changes to be considered, advice to be handed out, but I think I will spread them through a number of post and or topics. One big post would be overwhelming. Not sure if a fresh topic or adding on to this lengthy one is best - feel to opine.

We are home, minds are good, and bodies are healing. No doubt we have lots of things to overcome still, but the biggies are behind us. We will live, and with very normal lives. More to come because I'm now home with an active brain and I'm confined to a recliner. Thank God for a laptop.

David
