Just trying to get an idea how many will be going from Socal area.

Will be leaving wednesday AM, not sure on the route yet. Maybe go thru Flagstaff then north looking for the cooler (temp) way, or just bite the hot bulet and take 15 all the way (300 miles shorter) either way I plan on stoping for the night half way.

Input anyone.

Richard

Me. And others, I'm sure.

It's early in the game on this. But I can say, for sure, is if you go the direct route, meet up with whomever and be rolling out of Cajon canyon by 0600. That way you get across the desert and beat the heat and get to St. George, Utah by lunchtime. I've done this on several rides.

After that you climb up in elevation and it cools off nicely. Usually.

I suspect TurboDave is going. Prolly Kaitsdad. TWN, fer shure. Rogue. I thought everyone South of the Tehachapis knew one another.

I am toying with the idea. It's just that the I-15 is 750 miles of ****** riding. Hell, it's even ****** in a car. I think I would need a better route to go on this event. 396 to the 6?? I know of some great roads up near Mono Lake, but there is still Nevada. Nevada is motorcycle hell. More informed minds may have something to contribute.

I'll be coming from San Diego but probably won't be making firm riding plans until the weeks before the trip.

Depending on work and family, I may even drive up early and fly home and back so as not to be gone as long in one chunk.

If I can clear my whole week , another consideration is to come early, and trailer both the FJR and my WR 450 and ride off road on Wednesday and Thursday. I've never been off road up there and i here that it is epic.

I'll follow the thread though and try to join up with some of you if possible. Hopefully, I can meet some of you first over the coming months.

(I'll start a new thread but I'm thinking Baja on a weekday over the next few weeks would be great. Riding, sun, lobster, cerveza (only 1) what's not to like? Did you here about the FJR forum member that drove by the restaurant with the sign "lobster tail and beer" and he said "Oh great...my three favorite things!!!".)

I think you'd enjoy blasting across US6. Keep in mind that there's no gas between Tonopah & Ely (pronounced ee'-lee) tho. It's mostly straight, but practically NO traffic, even less radar, and a very well maintained road. Bring lots o'water... gonna be hot & dry then.

From Ely, I'd head NE to Wendover & cut across.

According to S&T, a straight shot to HB to PC via I-15 is about 700 miles.

HB > Ely > Wendover > PC is 820, but on very relaxing roads.

HB > Ely > Delta > (via I-15 *yuck!*) Park City is the longest at 860 miles.

Your call.

Also we could go via Flagstaff and up thru Monument valley, that is about 1020 miles and mostly cooler.

Beerme and Fairlaner,

Both good suggestions. I am reconsidering. Beerme is right about the 6. Two lanes and straight is far better than the I 15. Side rides would make it more fun and if it takes a day longer then that works with me. I know TWN mentioned a road, I think the 40. But isn't that East of Park City? I know I would love to ride the Idaho Scenic Highway again. Has anybody done that on a FJR. I caged it with my family and all I could think about was riding that on a motorcycle. BTW, that is North of Park City.

Maybe the route is 395 to the 6 with side runs, then return via the Idaho Scenic thru Grand Tetons, Yellowstone and then due west to San Fran and down the coast? Long ride but good route?

My route suggestion outta Flagstaff would be:

Just be careful on UT Hwy 261, there is a 10 mile up hill gravel section that easily navigated with awe-inspiring views and well worth the time, IMO. Just be careful as it was a bit slippery when I went through last September.

I personally would prefer to stay off gravel so would stay om 163 to 191 then up to the 70.

And Barry check out TWN's route..... looks good with a night in Flagstaff. makes it just over 1000 miles from Torrance.

Good suggestions, all.

Doable but no fun grinding it out on the 15 in 1 day.

Flagstaff idea: good.

U.S. 6 across Nevada: good.

I'm thinking Gold Highway [CA 49] then start cutting across at some point.

Long ways off, though.

MsNASCAR and I will be saddled up and on the road by 2 am Saturday. This should get us accross the desert heat and to Zion for a couple days of hiking the Narrows and Angles Landing. Then off to N. Rim for a couple more days of enjoyment. From there we will head up to Torrey via hwy 12 for the night. We should roll into Park City Thursday for the fun to continue. :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

I know I am going to here it on this one. Oh Well.

I am probably going to trailer it. Is anyone else in SoCal interested in the same. I have way to much vacation already planned this year and just dont want to take off the extra four days to drive up and back on the MC. I am going to try and get access to a trailer that probably could trailer three bikes. Very nice trailer with multiple side loading ramps, tire grooves and multiple tie downs.

PM me if interested.

I'm heading up from 'vegas and am interested in catching up with you guys on either route. I could cut across DV in the middle of the night to meet up on 395, or I could head east to Flagstaff and meet up there. When you get plans nailed out, may I join your group?

feel free to email me at worldbound4now at gmail dot com.

Thanks!
