On the GTR=ZX=1400 forum, delivery of the GTR1400 is expected in April in France. As reported by customer who ordered one in black. JFYI.

IIRC, the GTR is a 2008, but I concur with your assessment. Many buyers just won't wait and will buy the FJRs. Who would blame them? They better get here sooner than that, or most all the new bike buyers will already have '07 FJR'sOn the GTR=ZX=1400 forum, delivery of the GTR1400 is expected in April in France. I stopped by the kawi dealer today. They said as early as february they might start seeing them, but this sounded a bit optimistic. He said full info within the next 30 days. They did have a nice shiny card out for the bike though. He also said they have had a TON of people asking about the bike, and he expected that they would be in high demand initially-typical salesman. He said he thought they would only be getting about 4 of em for this year... not much considering they had several zx14 already on the floor. It's a 2008 model designation that allegedly arrive in Kawasaki dealerships here by the April-May time frame of next year.
Whether that actually happens, is anyone's guess....
chornbe, you do have a way of putting things into perspective. Welcome back.Eh, it's a tough road.
On the one hand anyone who buys the C14 and expects a perfect machine is being silly. It's a first-year model that has been kept largely out of the public arena thru' the whole R&D cycle. It's bound to have issues ranging from "this part isn't quite right" to "and I was going down the road and this part fell off/quit working". Hopefully that will be minimized, but if early adopters go into it with the right expectations, it could open the door for future buyers having the kinks worked out nicely.
On the other hand, if the first-year thing scares too many people off, then sales will be soft and Kawasaki will spend a year or two playing allocation games. But in the end, if they actually address any problem areas quickly, loudly and publicly, Kawasaki could end up winning a whole lot of buyers. In the past their customer service has been HORRIBLE. Personally, I just don't see that changing. But now's the time. With such a highly anticipated and desire machine to roll out... this could really change Kawasaki's place in the marketplace if handled correctly.
Tough call. I just think it's amazing that the bike is only months from release and we still have so many "TBD" and "TBA" points on it, not the least important of which is the price.
I can only assume the price is being held off so long because it's going to be low enough to sway ready buyers when it hits, and releasing that number too soon will have competitors scrambling on price wars. One can hope that's the case. Personally, if they release this bike at anything over $15k they're shooting themselves in the foot. The VVT is really the only thing that the FJR doesn't have, and you can get new FJRs for $11k - $12k all day long. So... it's doable.
The FJR will still compare favorably for many reasons, but there's a lot more to this bike than just VVT: 20+ extra hp, six-speed, state-of-the art chassis (inverted forks, petal rotors, monocoque chassis), tire pressure monitoring, Canbus, Tetralink shaft, etc. It's a seven year fresher design. I don't think they'll have any issue at all selling them at a $2K premium over the FJR, but because Kawasaki is always aggressive on price, I except it will be $14,995 MSRP with ABS.The VVT is really the only thing that the FJR doesn't have, and you can get new FJRs for $11k - $12k all day long. It comes with Mary Jane? It will be a big seller fo shobut there's a lot more to this bike than just VVT: 20+ extra hp, six-speed, state-of-the art chassis (inverted forks, petal rotors, monocoque chassis), tire pressure monitoring, Canibus, Tetralink shaft, etc. - Mark
