Not Safe For Work
Last year I took the bike in for some service, including replacing the original rear shock and front fork springs with some GenII ones I'd picked up. They looked down the tubes once they were off and shook their collective head sadly. Bent. Well, I was leaving right away and they didn't have the part in stock, so I let it go; kind of forgot about it. I'm sure a more sophisticated rider could tell immediately, but for me, it seemed fine. But with badly worn tires, the handling was noticeably impaired, even for me, so I asked about it again when I went in for tires. They're still recommending new fork assemblies, or at least just the much less costly inner tube part (5JW-23110-00-00). The complete left and right fork assemblies are ridiculous, though I do see them a couple hundred cheaper on line. Still a LOT.
So. . . anybody have an '05 (or '04?) you're parting out? Good forks? Might go for the repair if I can get the cost somewhere out of the stratosphere. Related thoughts are also welcome.
