Wow Mr. Stanley!! I have never met you but one gets to "know" someone through their posts to the forum (of which you have many to say the least). Let me sincerely say that I feel for you and I am glad that you got through that "okay".

Well Damn. I am truly sorry you had another get-off. I am even more sorry that you scuffed up another nice BMW in the process.

Okay, now I have questions. I have long wondered and speculated that a good, experienced motorcyclist might not do well on a trike. I figure the steering/handling is so different from what we do "instinctively" that it just does not translate. Yes, I am old enough to have ridden the old Honda 3-wheelers. I remember being decent with my dirt-bike but had to learn a whole new skill set for the Honda ATV 90.

So...

How is the braking distance compared to a two-wheeler? I would assume that with a narrow single front tire most of the braking has to take place on the rear.

Is the cornering speed anywhere close to a two-wheeler?

How much effort is involved in "steering"?

Pop has often said that he "Will not ride a damned triked out GoldWing". He has stated that he might go with the Can-Am but will probably go with a Jeep with the doors removed if he outlives his ability to ride his FJR.

Your thoughts?

Wow, that's definitely lucky for both riders. I'd have thought there'd be a lot of rear wheel braking on a trike with all that rubber back there.

Damn. Sorry about your misadventure. Ya gotta stop doing this kinda stuff, man!

RH, I'm also curious about the performance characteristics of the Wing trike. A friend insists he intends getting one as soon as finances allow. I've never liked the handling/cornering stability issues with trikes, and prefer the slingshot/reverse trikes such as the Can-Am Spyder.

Dang crap nabbit!, so sorry Don. Glad you 2 were Okay however.

Man, I gotta chill down w you again sometime w some cold ones. I promise not to preach ATGATT to you, but I might for your bike!

BE good and TAKE IT EASY!! Please?

-KJ (your lil Nor-Eastern Son!)

Damn Don !

Looks like you cannot buy a break.

In your situation I would probably be taking time off from riding 2 or 3 wheelers.

It's too hot down there anyway.

I'm not a doctor but I would prescribe air conditioning and a cool beverage.

So sorry to hear of another get off for you Don.

Glad to hear you are both OK though and were able to ride them home.

I would agree with others comments on 3 wheelers, look at those Spyders.

Wow, that's definitely lucky for both riders. I'd have thought there'd be a lot of rear wheel braking on a trike with all that rubber back there.
I'd have to find an article to support it, but I'm pretty sure physics dictates that the front wheel takes the braking force, even on a trike. Rear brakes on vehicles are really only there to keep the rear end where it is. The harder you brake, the more the rear end lifts. The more it lifts, the less braking it does. Not an issue in a straight line, but it sounds like he also swerved slightly throwing the whole damn thing out of balance.

DON !!! Jeeeez, knock that **** off. And didn't I remember reading (after your biggie one) that you'd be ATGATT, huh ?
Hey now Scouser, I never said I was smart! I just said I was Irish, aye! JSNS, Scouse: 'Lost a tenner down the alehouse, proper devoed, lad.'

Jeebus Don, you have to cut this **** out. I don't want to read a post by Skooter saying you left your shamrock at home and the results weren't good this time.

Here is one last heal fast and thoroughly, now you've done gone and used them all up.

How am I supposed to go out and have a beer with ya in a couple of weeks when you don't have any arms left that can hoist a 12 ouncer?

Damn......double damn......and they say that bad things usually happen in 3's.......hope you don't have any more rides planned. Maybe it's time to invest in some Cycleport Kevlar riding gear to go with your full face helmet (when did you get a FF helmet). I'm still looking forward to seeing you on 2 wheels in 2016.....you're not that damn old (yet).

Holy Chit, bruddah! What is going on out there in Solar Oven Land? That's some really bad luck!

Don't tell the doctor or he'll ban moto-toys from your life. (On second thought .... naw. You're a big boy.)

Sorry to hear about your misfortune Don, and relieved the outcome was not worse.

I think what really happened is that the HD trike exercised it's natural and irresistible propensity to bugger a BMW. You are to be congratulated for diffusing the situation as much as you did. And as for the the K1600, flaunting those three hole mufflers all over town, well that's just asking for it. I can see no fault in your actions whatsoever... WELL DONE!!!!!

Don, Don, Don...what are you doing?

You should have known the BMW was going to stop, if it was a FJR, he would have gunned it!

Seriously Don, I'm glad you're able to write about it. :)

Ya gotta knock this crap off Don. I kinda figured you and that trike a mismatch though. You are too well versed on how a two wheeler handles....not so much an ill handling slug such as the HD trike is.

Like others have said, this could have been so much worse for both of you guys.

Perhaps a rag top is in your future. No need to worry about wearing gear in those.

Damn Don not again,
ohwell.gif
you have to at least heal up from your first mishap

....sure glad it wasn't worse, and hope you have a complete recovery.

I'll be at the Harley plant here in Kansas City tomorrow. I will let them know that the Harley brakes suck.

You need to stop this crashing ****. Leave that to Tom, he is better at it.
