This video has gone 'viral' in the UK after being released by Norfolk Police and the rider's family.

Well worth viewing and reading.

Fault on both sides and his mother acknowledges it.

Thank you Donal for posting this. I will be encouraging my sons to watch this later in the day today. Actions have reactions, and we should choose ours' wisely.

Saw that yesterday on FB. Very sad story, but very strong message. My heart goes out to the mother. I admire her strength and resolve with the hope that it could save someone else's son.

Went outside and looked at my speedo. Straight up of the needle on the gauge is about 95 to 100. In the video, before he swerves it appears to be nearly vertical. Impact at 90ish is likely.

Mom and family have my respect for their courage to share such a sad time in their life. They get the big picture about doing something good out of tragedy. Hopefully his irresponsibile moment will help one of us. RIP

Dayum...Makes me think how lucky I have been over the years. Anyone know what the speed limit was/is there? Its stupid but if the limit was 60, and he had been doing that, he wouldn't have gotten to that intersection until after that car had already turned. I'm always amazed at all the things that have to happen to bring two vehicles to the exact same spot at the exact same time. A slow truck forcing him to wait before pulling out would have delayed him just enough etc...

I'm just wondering if he was going way faster than anyone should have expected, and if he had been going the SL, would he have had time to react. I'm thinking exact same scenario, from that distance, at half his speed would have simply put him at the rear quarter of the car instead of the front. May have made absolutely no difference.

You guys be careful...

The 'National Speed Limit' on single-carriageway roads is 60 MPH (unless a lower limit is posted)...................

On the video at 2:49 he overtakes and passes a vehicle like it is sitting still.

At 2:51 he is approaching a clearly marked intersection and a car is visible moving to the center lane. He does not cover the brake.

At 2:52 most motorcyclists would have seen the hazard and slowed or at least covered the brakes. He is at 110 MPH.

He covers the brake and yells at 2:53.5 too late. I see about 100 MPH at impact compared to my 05 speedometer.

The car he passed four seconds earlier will have plenty of time to evade the collision.

Beyond sad for all involved, and he is a fellow FJR rider. What causes anyone to drive in heavy traffic with cross-turns at mach loony speeds? Opposing traffic simply can't comprehend this kind of closing speed, and even vehicles being overtaken don't have time to register your presence and are capable of unpredictable maneuvers and being startled. No second chances at this speed which has no place except at a track and perhaps in the open desert where you won't take out innocent motorists.

He was riding fast in a bad situation. Like others said a lot of us have done it at one point or another in our riding days and we're lucky. There's a place to do so and I'll have to remember anytime a car could be turning to keep the speed in check! Good on the family for sharing.

Probably not, but debatable.

Maybe not "most riders", but for those of us for whom the original release of the Hurt Report (circa 1978?) became an integral part of defensive motorcycle riding, it's probably well more than "most" of us who would have done that, in addition to looking for "outs" and thinking evasive options.

Being that this is a performance oriented motorcycle forum, I doubt this will be a popular opinion: Here's what I think is the unfortunate thing about this video...

Many, if not most people who view the video will dismiss it offhand because the rider was egregiously speeding. Running over a hundred miles an hour on an undivided highway with crossing turn traffic like that is making your own death wish. Hell, just riding on that kind of roadway at the speed limit is unsafe enough.

Most viewers of the video will feel compassionate for the car driver who turned in front of the bike because now they have to live with the fact that they have killed someone, even though it was clearly the fault of the irresponsible motorcyclist.

The video would have been much more powerful lesson, IMO, if the rider was riding at the speed limit and the driver still turned in front of them causing the accident. That happens often enough.

Holy crap. I expected it to be bad, but that was downright brutal. I am not going to lie; for a second I thought about selling my bike and saying eff it. But, like David, I would rather die doing something I love than live an eternity denying myself one of the most pleasurable experiences of my life. All I can say is...
