I'm a Guinness man, but I really, really, really like Caffrey's Irish Ale, although it's about impossible to get in this neck of the woods.
Alan, if you like the McEwans Scotch ale, give McEwan's Champion Ale and Tennent's Velvet a try too.
If i can find them? I will. I am not sure exactly what I like in the beer I like. I just know if it is lighter than say NewCastle, I can taste the skunk they used to make it. Someone mentioned the double Chocolate, I have tried it and that is on my short list also.

But, there are so many, and not enough no work/no ride time to taste them. What is a guy to do?

I like beers made following the Reinheitsgebot (German beer purity law of 1516)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reinheitsgebot

I also like hoppy beers, like Sam Adams Boston Lager. Of course, I'm also partial to the "free ones" mentioned above.

Miller used to follow the Reinheitsgebot, but someone in marketting decided to cut the barley budget and substitute corn (when corn was cheap) and use the money saved for more marketting. The theory was that Americans couldn't tell the difference in taste, but the extra money spent on marketting would lead to increased sales. I've heard various stories about how this turned out.

The Belgian beers seem popular, so maybe something good will come of their recent takeover of Budweiser.

no man can have just one favorite brew, therefore i hereby post a few of mine..

my current fav., blue moon's honey moon summer ale

past favs, and occasional refrigerator space takers:

heineken, molson ale, MGD, moosehead, ice house, and one i can not get state side, black beard ale, a caribbean brew.

cheers,

cadman

Oh yeah, almost forgot to add my faves:

1) Tuborg (but I can't find it in the US)

2) the kind I used to get in Russia at the kiosk. Had to bring your own container (usually a gas can) to fill up

3) free beer

But, I may actually be the only person posting here that has an actual doctor's prescription to drink beer.

True.

No one came knockin so now there is only 4 left. All the talk forced me into it.

I brew my own and generally have a homebrew on tap in the kegerator. I like Belgian style ales. If I'm buying something, I experiment constantly. I had a couple of good beers from Flying Dog Brewery out of Frederick, MD, recently. I had a Tire Bite Golden Ale that was very good and their Horn Dog Barley Wine (10.2% ABV) was very good too.
I haven't heard of Flying Dog before...I may have to check it out, as it's only about 45 minutes away from me. I wonder if they are related to what used to be one of my favorite microbrews (before their production got too big to be called a microbrew anymore and before they were bought by Wild Goose).

Lately, I'm a fan of Harpoon IPA.

And, of course, virtually anything Brooklyn Brewery does is worthwhile.

Oh, one more thing. There's this really nice pair of craft brews available from Dogfish Head, their 60-Minute and 90-Minute IPAs. On tap they are just plain sublime. If you can imagine the hoppiest, most floral, fragrant beer you've ever had, but without the typically bitter aftertaste of an over-hopped beer, this is the beer for you. Three words: wow!

Beer. yum.

On the lager side, anyone who's been to Japan should have to agree that Japanese Draft beer is the best. Kirin is a personal favorite, but they all work. Key thing is to serve it in a chilled glass, which is how it is served here. Awesome.

Other than that.... the GF imports beer for a living, so I get a lot of it at home....arrives by the case. Mostly lagers, favorites being Cascade (Tasmania, Aus.), Warsteiner (Germany), Budvar (czech). Also a lot of San Miguel (philippines). Redback (aus) (wheat) is quite tasty.

that's by the bottle. Over the years Maers Braeu (Mars Brau without the umlauts) from Bamberg Germany is awesome. Brewmeister spent time in the US, has a laid back cali accent. Unfiltered lager there was awesome (rated #2 in the world in some mag a couple years ago?). Their light beer was #1, but never tried it. Neat brewery if you stop by.

A proper Guinness is great. None of that fast pour ****. Big fan of Kilkenny, but the bar near work closed for some bizarre reason. Other bitters I like as well, having spent enough time in London to get a taste for them. London Pride ain't bad.

Some of the mentions above.... Flying Dog had a good Ale I had a couple years ago. Seems to be more popular in the states now, I had it in Santa Fe. Didn't know it was from MD. Having only recently gone to Hawaii, Kona makes a good brew. Few different styles. Longboard lager will get you through a Tuesday.

For you Chicago guys, last summer I stopped by and had Goose Island. Very good. I bought the t-shirt. Went to the Wrigleyville restaurant for lunch. had a yummy flight there.

ahhhh.... beer is great. :yahoo:

I have a friend that is a homebrewer as well and he brings me his tasty creations from time to time. We also have a local tavern here that has 300 or 400 beers to choose from. Makes it difficult to choose, but you can try such a range of beers!

I have been experimenting extensively. :yahoo:

And I think I am calling this my favorite... so far.

edited for Favorites..... MY BAD
This may be sacrilege to some of you folks but I am not a big beer drinker - however I love this for a summer drink:

In a pitcher mix:

1 can lemonade

fill lemonade can with vodka and add to lemonade

1/2 shot raspberry vodka

4 beers (your pick of brew)

Serve over ice - tastes better after sitting in fridge a day.

enjoy...
