I had just walked in to one of my regular coffee stops this afternoon. A guy says "is that your bike". I was waiting for the usual "nice bike" or "how fast does it go?"

He says "whats his face just backed into it and turned it over" i asked "who's his face" he tells me Greg, he's still out there.

I get outside and my bike is back up on the side stand. First i went around to look at the left side assuming that's where it landed. Greg holds out his hand to introduce himself and explains that all the damage is on the right side. It seems that after he hit it someone yelled at him and as he pulled foreward, he was locked on and dragged it over with his 83 landcruiser.

We stood there a few minutes and just started adding up all the damage. upper and lower fairings, frame, side bag, mirror, brake pedal. deep dent in exhaust can. wait.. I need to stop and puke.

Even if we had an emoticon for that, it's a little to cutsy for my mood right now.

Anyway, this Greg kid was appropriately appolagetic and suitably stressed so i just told him "Thats why they call them accidents". We swapped info and then I headed straight to my dealer to get an initial opinion. He's a little like that mechanic from Seinfeld. If he sees a new scratch on my 04, I got some splainin to do.

He found a few more areas of damage and said that they'll have to get it apart to know the rest. He explained the I.C.B.C (british columbia insurance) procedure to me. He said that they will tell me that the scratches can just be painted. We will argue that painting will result in orange peeling.

Well I guess I should be glad that wasn't on the bike.

Since you're not in the mood, I'll dish up the emoticons for you...

Well, at least it wasn't hit & run. Sorry to hear the news about your pride & joy. Hope everything works in your favor. :)

I suppose it's better than finding the damage and no one around to take responsibility. If you didn't kill the guy I say you showed remarkable restraint.

Congratulations.

sorry about the bike but it can be fixed.

Jeebus. Sorry to hear about your bike. You were much more understanding and polite to the gweeb than I think I could have been...

I mean, come on! You have to be dumber than a box of rocks to hit a parked motorcycle.

Anybody incompetant enough to hit a large, stationary object like a parked FJR1300 has no business driving anything larger than a bicycle, let alone a behemoth urban assault vehicle like a landcruiser. "It was an accident" just doesn't cut it - the guy either couldn't see where the frickin barge was taking him, or didn't bother to look. What if it was a kid on a tricycle?

I know it's just plastic; it'll be a PITA, but nobody was hurt and you'll be able to get her fixed up good as new. It's just scary that there are such complete morons out there in the world driving around in 2-ton tanks.

What if it was a kid on a tricycle?
Then the world would be short one kid on a tricycle.

Jeez, I don't know why the world comes to a screeching halt because of children and their fate. Hell, make another one. It's fun and easy.

People take children and their safety MUCH too seriously.

Would it make you feel better if it had been adult on that tricycle? How about a poker-playing dog? Bill Gates listening to an Apple IPod?

Yes, I AM an asshole when it comes to measuring the importance of children. I don't think they have any importance until they becoming productive members of society.

Yes, I DO have children. Three of them. A 28 year old son, 19 and 16 year old daughters. Wouild I feel sad if any of them were killed by some bozo in a LandCruiser? Yes. Is it a tragedy? No. 80,000 dead in Pakistan is a tragedy. A squashed kid on a tricycle is a footnote in the local paper.

To quote a friend and associate "People who don't like children...just don't know how to cook 'em right!"

Let the flames begin.

:taunt:

So THAT explains how the Sheriff's Deputy backed into my little old Suzuki T-250 25 years ago!

(and then tried to tell me it was parked illegally--I guess he didn't give me a ticket because he KNEW it was BS.)

I know it's hard to hear, but it's better than having him run over it with you on it! Fixing your body is a LOT more expensive and painful. My crash cost me more in lost salary than it would take to buy a new bike.

Kinda like Iraq telling Israel where the nuclear power plant was. :)

Truthfully, I thought it extremely pretentious for someone to think that I, or anybody, would drive differently just because they, the person displaying the sign, had a baby on board. THEY should drive differently, not everyone else.

I agree! I just used "kid on a tricycle" as an example. Could also have been "old man in wheelchair", "teenager on a skateboard", "lady carrying a shopping bag", whatever.

Glad you are OK, and that the guy stayed around. My recently sold '05 bright YELLOW GL1800 was knocked over in my local library's parking lot...the woman who did it took off. The librarian told the police officer who showed up who did it...and she had, but claimed she didn't realize she had hit 820#s of screeminn YELLOW Gold Wing. Over $1300 damage. Nice to know the braindead are loose behind the wheel of their Buicks (yup thatz what she had) SUVzz pickemmupps etc........... Of course last week my brilliant wife backed her schhhtinkinn CR-V into the front of a 3 series bimmer, at least she reported it, but.... So much for my accident free discount! DFO

@Derek, very sorry to hear about your bike. To those who have not seen it, Derek's bike is showroom, and it gets ridden. I hope the repair is to your satisfaction, demand nothing less.

@RadioHowie, I agree with you, you are an ASSHOLE when it comes to measuring the importance of children, AND for trying to DERAIL this thread!

So tell me, RadioHowie, what do you think of these cute little signs:

Baby_on_Board_car_sign.jpg
The original intent of those signs was to notify rescue workers in case of an accident so that we would be more thorough in our search.

He says "whats his face just backed into it and turned it over"
It seems that after he hit it someone yelled at him and as he pulled foreward, he was locked on and dragged it over with his 83 landcruiser.
This is why I will always park on the sidewalk or in a parking slot adjacent to a sidewalk. If, as a motorcyclist, you ride defensively then you should park your bike with the same attitude.

Like I need you to confirm what I've already admitted about myself.

You think I'm off the wall, or out of line?

How about an earlier post stating:

If you didn't kill the guy I say you showed remarkable restraint.
Someone advocating murder because a stupid motorcycle got knocked over. Now THAT'S an asshole thing to say.

And Derek, sorry for "trying to derail" your thread. I'm glad we've got folks like rocketdoc to police the internet for us all and to judge what is and isn't appropriate.
