I was looking for a way to hear both my MP3 player and Beltronics RX-65 detector. Devices were $99 to $350! Went to Radio Shack and got Multimedia Y-Cable adapter (42-2496) and 6 foot extension cable 1/8" plug to 1/8" jack. plugged adapter into player and other male into extension to detector. Plugged ear buds into adapter and works great. I hear detector fine over music and RX-65 has auto-mute. Total cost about $15.

:clapping:

Be careful about Y-ing outputs. The output of one isn't prevented from feeding into the output of the other (+x volts). It can cause problems with the output circuit of one, or both, of the devices. This isolation is one of the things that drives up the cost of mutiplexing outputs into a single headset.

Yep, what he said !!

The life span of the MP3 or the RD will be compromised. Your sending signals from one output into the other device's output. It's not good for the circuitry I'd imagine.

Here's what I use and it is way under $100.00.

It works great and is about the least expensive way I've found to have more than one audio input and not have to worry about them. :yahoo:

I personally call it multi-tasking. I sing songs to myself and watch out for LEO's at the same time. When I want to hear a certain song...I sing it to myself. When I watch for LEO's I use my eyes. It's kind of old school but, it works.

Y-adaptors are not a good long term solution, as mentioned above.

I recommend you cal Kieth Goudelock at 918-446-2245. He's an FJR rider whose been selling various motorcycle audio systems for many years, and he really knows his stuff.

I use a Skullcancy Jacked Link to jack my cell phone alongside my Mp3 player. The universal model will work for a radar detector/Mp3 Player combo. The best part is that it's not a simple Y connector and it's under $40. They work great and your equipment won't suffer.

Been using an Amplirider for over a year now and it's performed flawlessly. Just finished the rewire for my new 2730 and all is well. Escort 8500 and the 2730 are sympatico!
