What would DoG do?
Since my motor is now starting to make a noise very similar to before it was worked on for the valve guides, and since I was concerned that it might be a cam chain tensioner, and since my YES expires tomorrow, I took the bike in to a newer local dealership for them to listen to it. The service manager, a young gentleman who sounds fairly experienced, and even familiar with FJR's, listened and agreed that there was a slight noise.
Suspecting the quality of the work done prior, he agreed to call and consult whoever up the line he does that with. During this time, he mentioned that the previous dealer might have used the wrong valve seals in the fix, and if they did, the next repair would be covered. If they used the right parts, and it was out of YES, the repair wouldn't be covered. I hadn't heard that before. If true, they are apparently convinced that the new guide seal fix is permanent.
Anyway, the person he spoke to said he would have to do some more research, as the parts invoice on the previous repair didn't "add up". We'll see. The service manager opened a repair order dated yesterday, so anything that eventually is found defective can be covered under YES.
I'm thinking, if it comes back that they used the right valve guides, and since the bike now has 26,000mi. since the tick repair, I'll contract his shop to do a valve check/adjustment. Then, they can check the valve guides and tensioner while they're in there and anything wrong will be covered under my YES.
If it comes back that the wrong parts were used and the mothership is gonna pay to have it done right, I'm thinking I might have to make the journey to WA for a proper repair.
Wish me luck, here we go again....
