Since my motor is now starting to make a noise very similar to before it was worked on for the valve guides, and since I was concerned that it might be a cam chain tensioner, and since my YES expires tomorrow, I took the bike in to a newer local dealership for them to listen to it. The service manager, a young gentleman who sounds fairly experienced, and even familiar with FJR's, listened and agreed that there was a slight noise.

Suspecting the quality of the work done prior, he agreed to call and consult whoever up the line he does that with. During this time, he mentioned that the previous dealer might have used the wrong valve seals in the fix, and if they did, the next repair would be covered. If they used the right parts, and it was out of YES, the repair wouldn't be covered. I hadn't heard that before. If true, they are apparently convinced that the new guide seal fix is permanent.

Anyway, the person he spoke to said he would have to do some more research, as the parts invoice on the previous repair didn't "add up". We'll see. The service manager opened a repair order dated yesterday, so anything that eventually is found defective can be covered under YES.

I'm thinking, if it comes back that they used the right valve guides, and since the bike now has 26,000mi. since the tick repair, I'll contract his shop to do a valve check/adjustment. Then, they can check the valve guides and tensioner while they're in there and anything wrong will be covered under my YES.

If it comes back that the wrong parts were used and the mothership is gonna pay to have it done right, I'm thinking I might have to make the journey to WA for a proper repair.

Wish me luck, here we go again....

Is this a precedent for a double tick fix?
Skyway's was fixed twice.

My repair will be covered, if necessary, under my YES deadline. He said that bikes that were repaired with the right valve guides and were no longer under YES wouldn't be covered. That part isn't confirmed, just hearsay at this point.

On a side note, it sounds like the new local dealership you went to is making a good first impression. They sound technically competent and I was really happy to see that they opened up a trouble ticket to make sure you were covered for your YES (possible) repairs... :yahoo:

It's nice to see good customer service....

I sure hope they make it. I've been burned by both closer local dealers. The new one is small, he said he loses money on each bike sold, and the bigger dealers can afford to do that for a couple of years, but not him.

He also told me he has his own dyno, due to building race motors, and he tuned his original boss's 2003 FJR to make 138 at the rear wheel, using air box mods, PCIII and a Two Brothers system.

He also said they might get a V-Max on their floor, two if they take a deposit on one. I didn't write a check, it would have bounced anyway....

TC - If you don't trust the local dealer to do the repair then Zac at Roseville Yamaha is as far as you need to go. He has done a number of tic fixes (including mine) and is very experienced at it.

Bullshit. Right or wrong parts, it should be covered. Is this a precedent for a double tick fix?
I know someone that has had their '05 fixed twice & he thinks that it might be ticking again. Good luck Cutter of Toes. Hope that all works out, Heidi
