Finland does something similar - in 2004 they handed some 27 year old kid a fine of 170,000 euros (these days slightly less than $250,000) for doing 50 mph in a 25 mph zone.

Norway fined someone the equivalent of $35,000 for DUI in 2003. Apparently the fines there are one and a half month's income.

Its not the fines that are bad, its all the crap they tack on to it. Guy at work just got nailed for passing a school bus. Fine: 150.00 By the time they got done adding on all the fees, 700.00 Nice huh?

$5000 here on PEI for passing a School Bus with lights flashing. Don't know what i'd do if i saw it as an intentional/rushed/ stupid act,.... The least of their worries would be the fine. Don't mean to be full of it but,... years ago lost a school mate to someone's hurry.
