OK then next topic of discussion ...

During my last few rides I have been spending time thinking about "What next?" My "To do" list is coming to a close and my desire to get off the clock and visit the places that

I have passed by has been building. I have however one ride that could pull me out of this "Kick-back and enjoy" stage. That ride being the "Hell Week"

I was surprised by the interest in a hell week group attempt. I mean some big riders expressed interest, like 4 riders who placed in the top 10 in the recent IBR. I think the event

would be incredible for the sport. Last I knew, there is (And will be no) cert. for "Hell Week", but to have an event where 5-10 riders attempt this monster could be cool. My own

chance of pulling off this ride would be slim to none, which is why it is so tempting to try. A ride attempt of this demand would require planning in advance. Thus I bring it up for

consideration now.

My initial thoughts are these:

*Have a route which is favorable to success. maybe central Texas/ New Mexico/ Arizona.

*Have a 750 mile route and do a there and back each day.

*A base Motel could be reserved for one week.

*The first BBG could be planned by each rider to get to the start motel. (Saving vacation time and resources)

*After the week of riding, Group photos, dinner and chat before riding home.

I welcome comments, interested riders, Ideas ...

Thanks, Tony

I think Utah is a good state too. Enforcement in Arizona is sometimes sneaky (stupid hiding LIDAR).

You thinking 2014? I think I'll hold off a couple years as vacation time is now scarce.

Also have a friend that is a New Mexico sheriff that is a rider and could give us ideas. Another thought is you can rent some pretty cool houses especially with enough riders. Then you have garage space your own pool, meals etc. Place to hang in the evening. On a small scale I rented a 3 bedroom house nice pool, outside bar (no booze) with 2 TV etc for 150.00 per day in Az. My other hobby is photography and we have rented some mansions that would be affordable with a group.

I would possible be interested in this. Depending on the dates

How many extreme IBA rides have you done?

...and do you really want to notify the gendarmes?

So, as I don't see the details, what exactly would this hell week consist of? Not that I plan on participating mind you, but maybe could do some scouting, or just general cheering, but I'm not gonna wear a bra!

Where ever you have it, there are at least two things it shouldn't have:

1. 90 kph posted speed limits

&

2. Moose

But I would agree with what flower child posted earlier. At least 3 routes to choose from. Avoiding possible bad weather as the week progresses and also to avoid boredom over a repetitive course.

This might be a good week to sit in a recliner and watch other ppl's spots.

Something else worth considering; if by chance you do end up having only 1 or 2 courses laid out, you might want to consider staggered start times. The reason being, it would be great if you had someone along who could do maintenance checks on the bikes when they come in. Would be tough if they all came in at the same time and a few needed new shoes. Know what I mean?

BBG = 1500 mi.s/24 hrs

Hell Week = BBG x 7

I think the word you're looking for is "OOFTA" (x 7)

First off I should have defined "Hell Week"

It is a series of BBG rides for a total of 7 days.

A BBG (Bun Burner Gold) is a ride where you must ride a min. of 1500 miles in 24 hours.

You must ride 1500 miles in each 24 hour period.

This is a monster ride! When you are not riding you had better be sleeping.

Wheaton......... you have to have patches and IBA stats to be a rider? I don't believe the few rides I've done at 1000 - 1300 miles would be considered a candy azz. If you do it you do it. If not you at least attempted it. If my wrist stays on the mend I'm not timid to try it in the least.

As far as the gendarmes......he's a rider too and a very cool guy. I was one for 3 yrs and wouldn't have an issue if I was still on. Actually I've had some pave the way for our group rides.

I would at least have ONE BBG under my belt before attempting 7 back to back. Makes sense, no?

signed,

candyazz rider.

When the Cognoscente ran White Pine Fever a few years back it was based out of Ely, Nevada. WPF was all about the miles. We ran our own routes. Plenty of fast roads in Nevada.

After the first 6 hours, it was apparent to a lot of riders that stringing a few BBGs together wouldn't be an issue. Of course, warchild's the only one who took it to the 7th degree.

One thing to consider are the logistics of a hell week. For a good number of riders, there's a tire change in there somewhere.

How bout...

1. 85mph speed limits

2. Armadillos...or Turkey Vultures? Complain about deer all ya like, but you do NOT want to hit one of them!

Ok...

1. I'm out.

2. Since this is "Hell" week, that means you'll be hitting those states sometime in July/August, right? Maybe if you aren't riding you should be hydrating.

I don't know what OOFTA means, but it kind of fits.

It would for sure be a grueling ride......not sure how board you'd get repeating the same route time and time again. It would take a huge amount of conditioning to attempt this, that's for sure.

My biggest issue I had on my Ultra, when doing LD ride was my throttle hand going numb on the second day. I was a wake and alert, azz was a bit sore in the tail bone area. Normally would go away during the gas stops.

I can not even image what Pathfinder had endure on this last one and Hell Week sounds worse.

Yes I had thought Nevada was mentioned. I used up all my reading comprehension last weekend. Nevada is too small for varied temperature / weather routes, but shoud be one of them. I thoroughly enjoyed I-15 south of SLC to Joshua Tree today. Many 80 mph posted limits and Utah Enforcers run Ka Bad all the time in case you detect that sort of thing. Nevada is king.

IIRC, curt ran out of Nebraska.going for opposite directions. The actual routes don't matter (can be individually tweaked), but a starting location or base camp that accommodates these areas is key. A garage would be cool. What about something like west Oklahoma or north NM. I see value in them. Lots of options I guess.

Did you have an idea on timing, Tony. I would do a Trifecta in the next year a round your Hell Week.
