Some things to consider with routing:

Elevation changes

Temperature variations

Population centers

Corners = gas stops

I ran I-15 on my B2B2B ride and also enjoyed it.

On my ride back from San Diego I was scouting I-10 and I-8 for the ride. You were correct about Arizona and law inforcement. West Texas has 80 mph and the deer were a concern. New Mexico was a positive experience again. The security stops were mere slow downs.

I think my strategy might vary from others. I ride 9+ over posted. I would try to maintain an 80 mph overall average with 4 hours rest each day.

The trifecta nearly kicked my butt, but you Josh- this would be a walk in the park for you.

I am very open to any options. Jason, PR2s will

Do the ride with no change out required. Put a "B" on the rear and have faith. I guess this is why I favor a pace and precision approach to the ride over a balls to the walls run.

If NM is an option we can contact my friend and get some suggestions from him. Hell he might even want to do it, he's kind of an extreme type of guy. The place I've rented the houses from I believe is VBRO Vacation by Owners with enough guys and depending the area .....you can have a nice garage, pool, place to cook out it you want etc. and cheaper than a hotel. I think the garge is a big plus.

If you want me to get some feed back from my buddy in NM I'd be glad to get him in contact with the group

Tony, are you trying to steal RiderX's nickname?

FYI - Utah just raised the interstate speed limits on I-15 from just South of SLC basin to Leeds to 80 mph all the way. Ditto for SLC to Wendover on I-80 and SLC to the Idaho border on I-84.

Warchild did this with 21 gallons of gas on board, and was running 19 hr BBGs with his own personal pit crew to change tires, (IIRC, 3 rears). With normal aux tank fuel of ~11 gallons and a 400-500 mile range, you're still starting full and making 2 or 3 gas stops each day. If you can stay hydrated and not stop for other breaks, running 7-8 hours of riding at a time, it's still a push to get enough sleep for the next ride.

You could run I-80 from Evanston, WY to York, NE and maximize the empty space. 750 miles from point to point, making it a simple out and back run each day. Downside is Cheyenne in the middle. Bordom? Whomever mentioned that hasn't done enough riding. It's going to probably be 20 hours plus on the bike each day for 7 days or more, (why match when you can surpass?). If you can hang with it. Yeah, there's going to be some boredom.

Great info Eric!

I am out of "To Do" certs and thinking this would be a nice attempt to close out LD riding with. Just returned fron Iowa a few hours ago and really thinking of putting the Dakar to use and flower sniffing with the 08 FJR.

As far as the hell week... I like to ride it with other riders. I really can't see me pulling it off (The Trifecta was tough enough) there are riders interested that could, including # 1&2 in the IBR.

And it was explained to me by a most admired rider, why the hell week should remain the ultimate ride and should never be one upped even if it was possible. I agree.

You thinking about trying? It would be so cool to get 4 or 5 riders together for this. I would go until I failed, then complete a 7 or 8 day 10/10ths.

No, not that I haven't considered it in the past. Gas money is a honest concern for me these days. The IBR was expensive.

Hell week represents about $1000 just in gas. Add hotel, food and tire costs and you have another $1000 pretty quickly. I can survive on 3 hours sleep every night and ride all day, day after day. That's what I did during the 10-n-10, but was also bonus hunting, so did the same kind of miles over 10 days instead of 7. It's hard to average 1100 mile days and bonus hunt. Especially when you're only running +10 max, usually +5.

As I understand, you can submit this kind of ride as a 10/10ths as the cert says nothing about how long it took, only that you rode the 10k w/in the 10 day period. I seem to recall they limited the number of BBG rides to the Trifecta, but that doesn't mean you can't turn in two back to back and another BBG.

Honestly, the group idea worries me in that it only takes one rider getting busted for something dumb, then all motorcycles are being watched, especially if the LEOs in the area get wind that there are others out there doing similar rides. Nevada is tolerant, but doesn't have large out and back routes, though there are several "fast triangles" possible.

As you learned in the IBR, it doesn't take too much for people to start picking us out of the crowd. Fuel cell, multiple GPS, aux lights... A lone rider can maintain more of a low key presence.

As for you being out of "to do" rides, make up something new to do. It may end up becoming a new ride for others to challenge themselves with. I have a few of those that I'd like to do.

Dollar wise for me is just fuel.

I ride a pair of PR2s (25k front/15k rear) the whole ride (B on the rear)

food, is snacks on the bike which cost around $20

I ride about a +9 rate of speed, so an 80mph speed would get a BBG in under 20 hours, which would be my target.

4 hours sleep in a motel room rented for a week would eliminate check in / check out delays.

All riders have different approaches. The start times would probably vary per rider, by "Group Ride" - I really meant "Event"

After day 7, Group photos and finish dinner.

To save on cost and time, a rider could do a BBG in route to the start location.

To eliminate stress and delays, a witness could be "On site" signing starts and finishes as they occurred.

Tony,

The IBA does list the number of days, but for the hell week rides, it isnt accurate. It says 10, when they were in fact under 7.

Probably way too expensive but how about a day at the Texas Motor Speedway. You'd need witnesses and pit crews too but you could set a new record for time to complete a BBG.

I can't begin to imagine how dizzy I'd feel after one, much less seven days, of doing something like that.

Wow. You guys are monsters for even considering this... I'm such a wuss in comparison that the very thought of seven days of 20 hours in saddle and four hours sleep makes me nauseous. No freakin' way I could do that.

But you can ride circles around most riders in the twisties - and I pity the fool who follows you!

not as bad as you might think. You don't turn on the high banking. I did the Dallas Super Speedway at 165 mph, (in a car), and it was a surreal experience, and until they started doing lap times, we had a ton of fun... then they realized how fast we were going! Opps. They installed chicanes of cones in the middle of the strait aways to slow us down after that.

But yeah, it's a bit expensive to line it all up.

Congrats to anyone with BtB BBGs. 7 is incredible.

I, on the other hand, wussed out and am DRIVING (yes) to Gerlachfest so I can haul a bunch of **** with me that I will use along the way there, to my Brother's and home again.

Here was a little excursion in ABQ.
