I am looking for someone who is into video in a fairly serious way, and has experience with helmet cams (or similar solutions). My experience with the quality of helmet cams years past has pretty much turned me sour on the optics/technology, but maybe they are better now. I am looking for a versitile way of positioning/recording various aspects of The Ride.

There are a lot of helmet cams out there, but I find very few places that comment about one vs. the other.

Anyone?

Thanks

Rockin FJR should be able to chime in here. He has a nice setup mounted on the side of his bike.

Here's my rig.

My problem now is the placement of videos for you guys to see. I've tried putfile, google's new video site, and upyours and none of these free services work well or at all. Maybe Slappy can talk to his server owner buddy and ask if we can store tons-o-gigs-o-vids for free? ;)

Nice setup. My Sirius Starmate setup is very similar! As for the cam - I am thinking about a helmet-type cam because then I can place the optics in varying positions for cool angle shots. I've set up my Canon Elura similar to yours here and it works well. But I need more flexibility.

Thanks guys for your input.

Hey Rocky,

Check out www.skullcamz.com in Colorado. The owner is Eric Miller if I'm not mistaken.

Last year I bought from him a bullet camera + 20 GB hard-drive recorder combo that just rocks. I've shot a few nice videos with it.

Rock-steady image, good definition and max flexibility. With a Velcro strip you can move the camera to different locations on the bike (or your helmet) and later edit the lot into something almost professional.

The turn-key job cost a bit over $800 last year (already wired and ready to go). I know an updated, new version is out. They're helpful folks and they ship quickly.

Stef's movies shot with this rig are awesome! A good testimony to the camera setup. Everything looks to be done by a professional.

Why, thank you sir! B)

I'll host a couple of the most recent videos on the server of our Italian FJR forum and place a link here.

Don't call me "Sir", someone might think I'm old!

Well, I don't consider myself an xpurt but I have used the Helmet Cam from HelmetCam.com for the past few years.

There are several resolutions available depending on how clear you need the image to be.

They have several mounting options and the price is pretty resonable.

Check out their site.

FYI, when I purchased mine, there was only one resolution available (380).

I filmed at least 10 TSCEC Enduros over the past 2-3 years.

I used Pinnacle Studio software to edit and create my DVD.

The DVD was shown last year at the TSCEC Banquet at Texas Motor Speedway and everybody wanted a copy.

It turned out pretty good for an ametures first time attempt.

OK RockyMtnWay,

check out this link

Surrounded by Beemers

It's a 12-minute video shot with the Sony 480 bullet camera and the Archos 420 recorder rigged by Skullcamz.

The original resolution is waaaay better, but this is just to give you an idea of how flexible that system can be.

The video was shot during a bike rally last May where I was the only FJR rider among 50 "K" Beemers

To edit I used the Ulead software. Good stuff!

Thanks for the link, that was pretty cool.

I borrowed a cam from a friend of a friend once, and the white balance was horrible. I think it was an older helmetcam.com one, but I could be mistaken. Everything was overly washed out, the optics/color really weren't great at all. Does anyone have any real downloads where I could see the true resolution/quality? Thanks for the help!

I have an old Canon Elura 20MC and it would also be nice if I had a remote for it with a light indicator so I could see if it was recording (or not), but maybe that kind of thing would be available via Canon.

Hey there TWN
I'm always impressed when I watch you ride. You are so smooth, nice video's too.

Zoltan
Zoltan

most of TWN's smoothness is actually post-production massaging of the raw footage  . He confessed as much in an unguarded moment... :p :p :p :p
