I live in the state of Michigan ( U.S.A. ) Our govener just passed a law making it legal to ride without a helmet. I will still wear mine but believe there will be many more serious injuries and deaths plus insurance rates will go up. Im against it but each rider will have to make there own decision on this. Wondering if there are helmet laws where you live

In Florida, you must wear a helmet unless you are at least 21 and have insurance. In other words, if you get in a wreck, they don't care if you get a brain injury as long as you've got insurance?

Hey Cheese, maybe they ought to outlaw women. How many guys get in accidents because they're gawking at some woman walking down the street?

Regarding insurance, years ago Colorado bounced between mandatory PIP on auto insurance. Each time law was passed for or against, insurance companies had a reason why the new law was going to cause higher rates.

I think it would be okay to not have to wear one if your were riding in a area that does not have alot of traffic, like thru a park or a small road along a river or something

Gotta get my opinion in before it turns to shit.

I don't think anybody should have to wear a helmet as long as they can prove the ability to pay all the expenses when the outcome isn't pretty. Stupid needs to hurt <_<

Every time this comes up I get kicked around for posting. SO- I won't check back after I post... :p

Motorcycles to some are dangerous, skydiving, rock climbing, football... Where do you draw the line?

Some would say "Avoiding the accident is best" Better hearing and vision without one. Once you are

in an accident-best to have had one on... Unless the fullface acts as a hangmans noose and breaks

your neck. Seems to me we need to outlaw cars and trucks. The tend to CAUSE most cycle accidents.

Where was I going with this... Oh nevermind.

I care..

To anyone choosing to go helmetless..

If you have an Arai, Shuberth or Shoei in an XL..

I would be willing to pay actual shipping to my address.

Please PM me with what you have..since you won't need it.

Serious inquiries only.

It didn't take long...I saw my first brainchild Sunday. Cruiser. T-shirt and jeans. No glasses, no protective gear. Riding in pouring rain. Boy, that looked cool. If nothing else, he knows that riding unprotected in the rain can hurt.

There's a time and place for everything. I particularly enjoyed the luxury Saturday myself. Meeting friends for coffee at a downtown cafe, had to park across the street. About the time I got all the gear put away, a spot across the street opened up. It was nice to be able to just hop on the bike, scoot across the street and park again, w/o worrying about a ticket. For me, that's the 'choice' I like having. Beyond that, don't expect to see me riding anywhere w/o my helmet:). I like life<g>.

They give us choices about ATTGATT. Most would agree that this is good. It could be argued that there are far more road abrasion injuries than brain injuries: however, there are no ATTGAT laws that I know of. Just a thought to stir the pot.

JT--you're from White Lake. I've got a good buddy, Brian Ratledge that lives out way. I went to Waterford Kettering and used to love riding my dirt bike out in White Lake. So many nice trails off M-59. Some of my favorite memories.

Springtime is usually the time when newspapers publish the motorcycle death articles as rusty riders get back on and give it a go. No different this year. Accidents caused by various errors by rider or oblivious cager...resulting in some surviveable accidents resulting in death for those choosing to not wear helmets due to whatever. The latest being a local fire chief in his early 50s.

I have no problem with people choosing their own means of protection...I just hope it's not a stupid going along with the crowd thing. People's lives or their family's lives are changed every week of this year...I just hate to see cracked skulls from a 20mph head sliding into a curb or a tree or a fencepost...when it didn't have to happen.

I am glad I am not a first responder...I wouldn't handle it well at all. I would be angry and sad at the same time.

Since opinions are like assholes, and I am called one so often might as well join in. I agree you should have a right not to wear a helmet. However dont expect me and the rest of the taxpayers to support you and your family for your "decision". If you get a brain injury on a motorcycle without wearing a helmet you and your immediate family are not eligable for any government aid whatsoever.
