I dont like any of the stick in ear type that I have seen so what I did was go to Best BUy and get a good set of sony headphone type that are about 2" diameter and I took the dremmel toool and inlayed them inside the helmet. Now it sounds like a freakin concert hall inside my helmet.
mehaffydr, me needs to see your install. You fix a pair for me?

When we get together?

Criticism is fine. Reality around here is temps commonly exceed 100F on the bike. Does no good to wear all that protective gear if you pass out and crash from heat exhaustion. Would love to ride safer, IF I could stand the heat.
Every year we get a month or so of 100+°. Doesn't stop me from wearing a helmet, gloves, jacket, boots, etc. Stay hydrated and moving and you're good to go to about 130° V if my day trip from upper Montana to lower Nevada is an example.

People do it all the time. You just need to pick the proper gear.

STLFJR, I will try to take some pics tonight and post them . I would be glad to help you get somee in your helmet. It is not that difficult just a little time consuming to get a really good fit and have it look like nothing has been done.

These are type that I used Headphones

I agree. Here in AZ it's over 100 from June to Sept. and not uncommon to reach 115 like we've done the past 4 days. Still wear the helmet, jacket, gloves and boots all the time. I find it isn't any hotter with my mesh jacket on than without, and you'll actually dehydrate faster if you ride in just a t-shirt.

If it's too hot for the gear, I don't ride. I dress for the crash, cause you just never know. The asphalt will be pretty hot when you're laying on it, and no one will let you get up because there's all that blood, and a lot of skin is missing. And have you ever seen the really NASTY road rash- you know, the kind that takes a good brushing to clean, and neosporin and saran wrap and a month or so of crying yourself to sleep and smelling really bad cause you can't shower properly, and your SO tired of your whining every time she has to help you dress, and your boss pissed off cause you can't really do your job properly, and everyone's insurance rates go up because you lived, and now they have to pay all your medical bills, and under the beef jerky it looks all green and gooey, and then you have really bad scars for a LONG time, and all your friends listen to your story and you realize as you're telling it they all think you're stupid for not wearing gear and your mom says she knew you were going to get hurt on that damn thing, and you think(or, obviously don't think)- ****- I should have worn my gear.

Oh yeah- helmet speakers. I did the regular headphone thing also. I slid them under the fabric in the ear slot, and the cord under the removable liner. Then I run the cord down through my tank top to the mp3 player in the front pocket of my shorts. I don't have bike power, so I keep an extra battery velcro'd to the strap on my flip flops. I wear the flip flops so my feet don't get burnt when I stop at the light. Or if I step in gum.

Ride safe.

Been using those Etymotic ER4P earphones for about a week now. Come with several different sizes and types of plug. I don't like the rubber ones...like shooter's plugs...but the foam fit perfectly and are alleged to give a 40+db noise isolation...better than most earplugs, certainly better than the custom molded plugs I replaced. Comfortable enough for all day. Sound from them exceeds the iPod's capabilities. Cheaper than the customs, too.

to repeat myself, best price I found was www.shipdog.com

The helmet speakers sold by Riders Warehouse of Aerostich fame, are made by chatterbox and are really good and inexpensive (a rare combo) I have them in my Shoei RF800 and use my dell mp3 and the sound is totally fine at any speed (don't get funny now guys, I mean up to 80 anyways). I highly recommend them. You have to buy the coiled cable to connect to your device seperately and that is of high quality also. :yahoo: VT

I may have to try the same thing because the headsets that are included with the Starcom suck. I'm not looking for audiophile quality anything, I just don't want it to sound like the AM transistor radio I had when I was 6. When Michelle is talking to me she sounds like she is speaking from inside a tin can...

Axeman you may have just answered a question I have been pondering. I just received the starcom 1 advance from sportbikeeffects. I ordered two headsets for full face helmets. I also ordered 2 pair of ER6i's. I want to try both. Should get it hooked up this weekend.

This is some good stuff! I use Shure noise cancelling earphones with a scarf between them and my helmet and a Creative Labs MP3 velcroed to clutch fluid reservoir. Since I have been doing this the windshield hasn't moved from the down position. :D

I've been looking for a pair of quality helmet speakers. Most seem to be inexpensive and the reviews aren't that great. Does any one have a specific brand they recommend?
I bought two Arai Profile helmets with built in speakers and mics from J&M Corp for my wife and I to use......I got the cord that goes from the helmet to the Integrar IV with a volume adjustment knob on it, so either of us can change the volume to his or her liking on the go.

I'd think they'd sell just the speakers too, but their helmets they modified to sell is the nuts....The Integratr IV is the nuts too...Battery operated if you want ( that's what I did) and it does the same things the autocom does......ie, mutes the music for an incoming phone call or if your radar detector sounds etc....

Pretty Kewl all in all....

Now that I could use on the Starcom. It would be nice for Michelle to be able to adjust her volume independent of mine. Anybody know of someone that sells five pin cords with volume controls that will fit the Starcom?

That's shipdog company doesn't sell the ER-4P's - you can find them on ebay for only "170" or so. That's pretty expensive for earplugs that have speakers in them. They appear to be awesome on paper though. More results now with some riding ....
