I laid out a route through CT, MA, NH, and VT on Mapsource and after review thought I had done a pretty good job, everything looked good. I zoomed in close on the map to make sure there weren't any strange loop-d-loops or detours down goat trails etc...and then I saved the route. After downloading it onto my 2730 I decided to check it again directly on the GPS. When I ask the GPS to navigate the route I get a screen saying "THIS ROUTE DOES NOT MATCH THE AVAILABLE MAPS! DO YOU WANT TO RECALCULATE IT?" If I tell it "YES" it completely changes my laid out route and sends me off on a 100 some odd mile detour in a direction I don't want to go. If I tell it "NO" the route I originally planned turns into a route that follows no known road and takes me across the middle of lakes and ponds.....WTF is going on here? ASHE? ANYONE? For reference, I have sent the GPS back to Garmin twice for repair and the second time they sent me new unit. Could it be I have to buy a map upgrade?

Maps in your unit do not match the maps in MapSource. Try connecting to the unit via USB cable, then run MapSource and "Receive from Device", check "Maps".

Copy and paste your route(s) into the new instance of MapSource and recalculate the route.

It might work. Anybody else?

Yup. Maps aren't matching. Did you recently upgrade your GPS map? If so, did you also update that map to mapsource?

You need to find out what versions you are running on each. On the GPS, find the 'about' or similar tab, and it will tell you what version is in your GPS. In mapsource, on the upper toolbar, click on 'help', then 'about mapsource', and then, 'product info'. That will give you the version of the map in mapsource.

The two need to match.

Incidentally, in mapsource, you can usually choose which version of a map to run if you have had several in your GPS. Upper lefthand corner, there should be an arrow for selecting the map you want.

Axe,

I'm in a similar situation as you. Garmin recently replaced my Zumo under warranty and the new unit has newer maps than I had purchased (2009 vs. 2008 on MapSource).

I tried to Receive from Device / Maps, and MapSucks reports "The Selected Device Has No Maps On It".

I'm going to ask Garmin support next.

The Map Source program or version must match the version of maps you have in the GPS unit. Like mentioned before, make sure you are using a Map Source program equal to what you have loaded in the GPS...Older or Newer.

If they are the same, when you transfer the data the map will be the same as you mapped on the computer.

Check this out and let us know.

Ashe and Axe:

Garmin will send you a maps disc to upgrade your Map Source program maps to your repaired GPS maps. They have a certain name for it like....System Support Disc. You would think they would call it a Maps Update Disc but because it is just updating your Map Source program they call it something stupid.

Bottom line, I had to do this and they sent it to me FREE of charge. Everything works great.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, message sent to Garmin Support.

All great advice thankyou. I finally got back to looking at the problem and this is what I find:

GPS reads "Software Version 7.0 City Navigator NT2008"

Mapsource reads "Data Version 8.0"

I'm assuming version 7.0 doesn't jive with version 8.0.

Will this have any effect on the EOM maps that Jeff made up and are now downloaded on the GPS?

Thank you RACLOW for the heads up on the fix-it disk. I'm going to see if I can get through the usual log jam of phone calls at Garmin Support today to rectify this.

If they are the same, when you transfer the data the map will be the same as you mapped on the computer.

I've had trouble with this in the past actually. My zumo / mapsource maps are the same.

But I found when creating a route on Mapsource, then sending it, the zumo will then recalculate it, i'm guessing using the various 'route points' that you specified. (ever wonder why it needs to recalculate?)

So what I've learned is that when I do the route, I make sure to put points on every road I want to hit instead of relying on Point A and Point B and seeing what Mapsource does with it.

"Thank you for calling Garmin. You can expect a wait time of 35-40 minutes to speak with one of our product support specialists. Please stay on the line and we will be with you as soon as possible. Thank you for calling Garmin." :glare:
