I think the hotel room explosion is pretty normal. Mona and I seem to do the same thing when we travel.

Roll safe Julie! Thanks for taking us along

Gotta to watch out for those tractor trailers. They can't see you when your along side of them. You need to hustle on by them as fast as you can. Lovin the ride reports. 780 miles is a good day for sure.

Edit: I like the helmet. I did the same to my 2015 bike. My wife has a grey helmet also. So now I will take a look at adding some decals to it also. LOL

Stay safe,

Dave

This is the type of excellent ride report that all others should be modeled upon. Great story and same for the pics. Sounds like you had a really good day. I'm impressed by the mileage. Safe travels.

Good stuff. Have a great run and keep the rest of us jealous with your adventure.

Awesome, just awesome! I'm doubly impressed by the "reporting from the road" aspect. I'm lucky if I can remember anything by the time I get back from a lengthy trip, but don't know how to use an iphone quickly and easily (hate typing on that damn thing!)

Enjoy the trip - I'm extremely jealous

Sounds like a fun trip so far Julie. Be careful and keep the shinny side up! Will be heading out that same way in about mid August for a month.

Day 2!

Left Topeka- it was hot and humid already at 6:30am!!!

You know what I did today? I got off the interstate!! *gasp!* And you know what else I did? I talked to random people!! *double gasp!* And guess what? I enjoyed it!! *faints*

But really though- after 43 miles this morning, I got off the interstate and took two lane roads up into the hills of Kansas.

Hey look! I rode to Manhattan!

20170727194354-16ecad6e-me.jpg

Eventually I made my way to a tiny town of Lebanon, KS. And the point I was headed to had 1 road. And it had construction on it…

20170727194356-185bca0d-me.jpg

But I made it! To the Geographical Center of the 48 states!

20170727194358-6ed42677-me.jpg

Not much around here… but it’s pretty!!

20170727194359-4b0fb451-me.jpg

Down into Lebanon to pick up some souvenirs from the grocery store- and they told me to check out the city jail. Lol.

20170727194400-3911bb2f-me.jpg

Back on the road and headed west. Still on 2 lane roads… Not much out here!

Gotta have some fun…

Back on the interstate and I love this sign!

20170727194404-b8e8f681-me.jpg

But gotta be careful… because of these guys. And PS, my radar detector was doing a fabulous job. Lol.

20170727194405-1500d154-me.jpg

Hey look!! I made it to Colorado!!

20170727194405-89051525-me.jpg

Overkill much? Wouldn’t it just been easier to tie the bike into the bed of the truck? Eh, whatever.

20170727194405-34f2e097-me.jpg

On the road headed to Colorado Springs… I just want to see mountains!!!

20170727194406-41eae161-me.jpg

LOOK!!!!! MOUNTAINS!!!

20170727194406-470edd4b-me.jpg

I’m pretty stoked…

20170727194407-e847111b-me.jpg

And here’s a tip. For the times that you just don’t wanna make more trips. A big ole carabiner can carry quite a few bags all at once!

20170727194407-a3293c77-me.jpg

And then guess what else I find at the hotel?!?!?!?

20170727194407-da4542b5-me.jpg

Mr Bill, CJ, and extrememarine who are out ready to dualsport the mountains.

So to dinner we go…

HuHot Mongolian Grill…

580 miles for the day. Not too shabby…

Day 3!

This morning, the boys packed up for their week on the dirt in the mountains. I chilled and packed for a day ride. We decided to ride to Pikes Peak together.

Big Foot anyone?

Something funny I heard from the employee in the gift shop. They’ve had an influx in Big Foot sightings… ever since the legal use of marijuana. Lol.

20170728173233-d9a109b9-me.jpg

And up we go!!

20170728173234-e0c98e41-me.jpg

Not much of a shoulder to spare…

20170728173235-422fb99d-me.jpg

At the summit!!! 1 of these bikes is not like the others…

20170728173235-0a0d4f85-me.jpg

What a view!!

20170728173235-3a2a45bf-me.jpg

Pretty awesome to be able to meet a great friend in Colorado and ride to the top of a mountain with him. Cool dude.

20170728173236-4851df06-me.jpg

Extrememarine, FJRfarrier, Mr Bill, and CJ. (whose forum name I have totally forgot after asking him about it this morning. Lol)

20170728173236-21bcc956-me.jpg

And headed back down!! SNOW!!

20170728173237-517d4d2c-me.jpg

Hello fellow FJR!!! Passed you as you were going up. Gen 1. 2004? Hello, and here’s a good pic of you.

20170728173237-73a361b4-me.jpg

Stopped at the Crystal Creek Reservoir. And these really big planes flew over. Low and loud!

20170728173237-49df4fc1-me.jpg

We then made our way to a lunch stop. These were the riders that surrounded me…

20170728173238-3cd909b4-me.jpg

Trying to outrun the rain!! This rain storm chased us off of Pikes Peak.

20170728173238-6c59c5ea-me.jpg

We found a pie place!!! 3.14 Sweet & Savory Pi Bar.

20170728173239-fa22a4af-me.jpg

I had the Rosemary’s Baby pot-pi. “Hand pulled slow roasted chicken, tender baby peas and carrots, in a delicate, creamy white wine rosemary sauce.” And mashed potatoes. It was yummy!

20170728173239-56f8210b-me.jpg

And for dessert? PIE!!! Lovely bunch of coconuts. And WOW. That was freakin’ delicious!

20170728173239-2bc5ee20-me.jpg

After lunch- we needed to split ways. But first we rode through Garden of the Gods.

20170728173240-ca8372b4-me.jpg

20170728173240-f2a892dd-me.jpg

LOOK! A HORSIE!!! Lol.

20170728173240-30836678-me.jpg

And then Balanced Rock.

20170728173240-58b6a7f9-me.jpg

I would say that Garden of the Gods is a nice place. A nice drive around the loop. Would seem to be a better place to stop and take a hike.

And after that, I headed back to the hotel. Only got about 90 miles for today. But it was a great day. Friends, Pikes Peak, scenery, and PIE!

And now I would like to acknowledge a good friend. Brandon- thank you! We had been talking earlier about bike covers, and I had mentioned how I liked his that he has. Well, on the Saturday before I was to leave, he placed an order on Amazon, and by Monday I had the cover on my doorstep! And now it is doing a great job keeping my bike dry and covered at the overnights! Storms are rolling around the area this evening…

I am curious as to how you get your pictures while riding? Are you using a gopro? Something must be mounted so you can just hit a button to get picture. Usually my pillion takes the pictures.

That piece of pie looks killer, I love coconut.

I have a Sena 10c unit on my helmet. Camera and communicator. Pictures and video capable.
And yes- that pie left me speechless. Well, maybe not speechless. Just moaning. Lol.

Heat-Out gear draped over the TV, water jugs on the microwave, clothes bags (newly re-organized), suit strewn out on the floor, and laptop open on the bed. Helmet and tank bag are just out of the picture- on the desk near the door.

Pants will now be accusing you of riding "Commando"

Sometimes it is my iPhone that I have in the ram mount on the dash shelf... and sometimes it is my point and shoot Nikon camera that I keep in the tank bag. Just depends on what kind of picture I want, and how much time I have. Usually it's the iPhone. Has a good quality front facing camera. So I can see the frame of the picture I am trying to take.
