Great pics and RR, enjoying following your travels. But, who takes replacement brake pads with them? Travel safely and continue to have a great time!

The clunking is still there- even after the changing of the brake pad. I'm not sure what it is....

But the rough road of Mt Evans did not help- it definitely brought all the clunking to the surface! lol.

Awesome pics, even better, a pic of you wrenching on the bike. Curious, your changing of the brake pads solve your problems in the front? I'm thinking Colorado is going to be your long-term home one day. Safe travels!
And I don't think I could manage the winters out here. It's a beautiful place to visit. During the summer. Lol.

Great pics and RR, enjoying following your travels. But, who takes replacement brake pads with them? Travel safely and continue to have a great time!
I took replacement front pads on this trip. Lol. When we were changing tires we noticed that 1 pad on the front was getting low. But not enough to change before the trip. So I packed a set of 4 just in case.

Day 9…

Started the day out in Leadville, CO again. And this is what I wake up to… (actually, this was a screenshot from yesterday, but it was similar this morning!) And yes, that is Fahrenheit.

20170803175828-57338e89-me.png

So I head north and east. Make my way over Fremont Pass, rt 91, again- what a fun road!!

20170803175830-9d47707c-me.jpg

And then I head south and east. Down through Breckenridge on Rt 9.

20170803175830-8b4e0b40-me.jpg

That takes me over Hoosier Pass.

20170803175830-01b5fe07-me.jpg

These 2 ‘Stich clad BMW riders pulled out ahead of me from the pass. I had a good time following them to Fairplay, where I switched routes. I jumped onto rt 285 then, and headed east.

20170803175831-db7fd364-me.jpg

20170803175831-5887fe75-me.jpg

Dark cloud hanging over THAT hill. Luckily, nice and bright where I end up heading.

20170803175831-bd67eff9-me.jpg

20170803175831-83559325-me.jpg

Pretty overlook alongside the road.

20170803175832-8316c284-me.jpg

And HORSIES!!!! They were riding and had just stopped to get a drink in the creek.

20170803175832-8e474f14-me.jpg

Coming into Conifer, I started to get into clouds…

20170803175832-a2161351-me.jpg

Then wiggled my way around the area and got onto some twisty roads that lead towards Mt Evans. They also provide pretty views!!

20170803175832-84dcda84-me.jpg

20170803175833-3999a304-me.jpg

20170803175833-e7886ca2-me.jpg

20170803175833-bf53dd63-me.jpg

And then I am there!!!! Now all I have to do is ride to the top…

20170803175833-39f41561-me.jpg

And so up I go…

20170803175834-ffa4fd31-me.jpg

20170803175834-4641a2b4-me.jpg

20170803175834-8ab09474-me.jpg

20170803175834-5138cb04-me.jpg

20170803175835-40a4195c-me.jpg

20170803175835-8106426e-me.jpg

LOOK! GOATS!! (Or are they sheep…?)

20170803175836-b7ccc589-me.jpg

And then I MADE IT!!!!

20170803175836-41d2a379-me.jpg

I FINALLY DID IT!!!!!

20170803175836-8f195da6-me.jpg

What a view!!!

20170803175837-2faed620-me.jpg

And snow! The itsy-bitsy bit that I found!

20170803175837-cea1c08c-me.jpg

Couldn’t quite see Pikes Peak, with the fog. But otherwise, pretty!

20170803175837-a045b76f-me.jpg

Took me 3 years… but I did it!!!! 3rd time’s the charm!! YAY!

20170803175838-d21bd7f0-me.jpg

And then it was time to descend… and more goats!! (sheep?)

20170803175838-19f031ac-me.jpg

Lots of zigzagging…

20170803175838-a245b6a1-me.jpg

Made it to the bottom. Stopped at Echo Lake for a picture.

20170803175838-11d6c8db-me.jpg

Here’s a pic from the same place- just 2 years earlier. My first trip to Colorado- 2015.

20170803175839-5f29eb5d-me.jpg

Made my way down the hill towards I-70. That road, rt 103, is quite fun!! Big sweepers, pretty view, not very busy, and nice pavement!

20170803175839-ca949559-me.jpg

20170803175839-e7340e87-me.jpg

20170803175840-cec7a425-me.jpg

And then jumped on I-70 for a short hop to the hotel in Georgetown. It’s a pretty interstate!!

20170803175840-59b79be0-me.jpg

220 miles later, I snuggled into the hotel. Early. Lol. Desk worker says I can park next to the sidewalk, outside the room. YAY!

20170803175840-69e6313b-me.jpg

Walked to the gas station / Subway for dinner. Picked up a sub and puppy chow.

20170803175841-ac145ade-me.jpg

Made it back to the room just in time! Rain and hail decided to come pounding down!

20170803175841-6c3897af-me.jpg

And here is a glimpse of what I do when I get to the hotel. Lol. I explode on the beds, shower, eat dinner, open the laptop, and start working on organizing pictures and finding words to describe the ride for the day.

20170803175841-15ebb660-me.jpg

And I enjoying reading every one of your comments! Thank you for following along!!

Great job. We aren't getting there this year so it's fun seeing through you eyes. Keep it coming.:) :)

Everybody calls them mountain goats but they are bighorn sheep. Did you play with any Picahs? They are squeaky little guinea pig critters that live in the rocks above treeline on the mountains. The Marmots also squeak when you get close to them.

Are they still charging to drive up Mt. Evans? They just started doing that about the time I left Denver.

I'm not sure of the road condition but seeing the sawtooth and mt. beirstadt from Guanella Pass is worth it, IMHO. It's one of the easiest 14ers to hike. since you're in Georgetown you are right at the road that leads over the pass. For the hardcore trekker you can, from Guanella Pass, hike to the top of Mt Beirstadt, then cross a very airy ledge traverse of the sawtooth, and hike to the top of Mt Evans, then back to the car at guanella pass all in one day...although unless you have trekking companions and have high altitude moutaineering experience I don't recommend it.

I would love to see a recent picture of the sawtooth.

Sheep? Goats? I think they are wild wolves, and you are very brave to have faced them down!

Photos are fab, and we appreciate the effort you make to get them organized and posted.

I had the fortune to live a bit north of Denver in the 90s and until the dotcom bust hit in 2001. Nearly killed me to have to sell my house and move back east. I've made attempts to move back out there over the years but now that I know what it costs to live out there, and as an older engineer, the companies out that way aren't as interested in hiring me with my "comfortable lifestyle" salary requirements.
Keep the photos coming! The nostalgia brings a tear to my eye when I see places where I used to climb or telemark ski in the backdrop of your photos.
Wow tempest, we have a lot in common. I was in Denver from '92 till 2002 when the bottom fell out (and I'd been out of work for 18 months). I had to move to Massachusetts and go back to work at Raytheon. Have wanted to go back ever sense but it's not in the cards. I'm an engineer as well (software) and even rode an RD 350 in the mid 80's. It was my Dad's and I'm pretty sure it was a '74.

Julie - keep up the great work. Even though you're killing me.

A ride to the top of Mt Evans just got added to my bucket list! Super pics! Great commentary! Keep it up and be safe.

Google maps tells me it's just a tad over 800 miles to Mt. Evans from where I am. Heck that's just around the corner for an FJR rocketship.

So much socializing occurred this evening at SW-FOG… that there will be no ride report posted tonight. I will work on that in the morning. It was an eventful day, though!! So you have something to look forward to…

Day 10

10 days on the road… starting to become redundant and exhausting.

I enjoy it still- just need something to look forward to.

It’s not even the miles that are long. But the days are long. Mentally filling me every day. So much to see. So much excitement occurring.

I’m so happy to be doing what I am doing… I am just trying to soak in as much as I can.

And look who found me at the hotel!

20170805082828-9467db2a-me.jpg

Wayne wants to ride up Mt Evans this morning. I’m cool with doing it again!

He takes side roads to get to the base, I take the interstate. Pretty morning!

20170805082829-207d94af-me.jpg

Jump onto 103. I am liking this road! This sign means fun stuff!!

20170805082830-aa1d0139-me.jpg

20170805082830-22db76da-me.jpg

Stop at Echo Lake. It was a bit clearer today- so I took another picture.

20170805082830-369821ee-me.jpg

And then Wayne catches up to me, and we begin our ascend to the top!

20170805082831-c696b1b1-me.jpg

20170805082831-3a28ffb2-me.jpg

Not foggy this morning! Just a little hazy…

20170805082831-99e13cc3-me.jpg

20170805082832-f5d3eb26-me.jpg

Slightly camouflaged, but he’s there! Riding the switchbacks a bit faster than I.

20170805082832-b98c1e05-me.jpg

20170805082833-4b6701b2-me.jpg

Remember those Aerostich clad Beemer riders from the day before? They were headed down as we were headed up!

20170805082833-4676940c-me.jpg

20170805082833-23a36611-me.jpg

Waiting for traffic to clear before we conquer the last switchback. Almost there!

20170805082834-e31f8bee-me.jpg

And he has made it!!! That DRZ has done great for him for the past week in the mountains!

20170805082834-acd9b7b7-me.jpg

Ok, so our parking skills could use some improvement…

20170805082835-53d61c56-me.jpg

Hazy, but still beautiful!

20170805082835-7311641c-me.jpg

And then we say “Wanna take a hike?” I mean, we made it this far… only a couple hundred more feet to the absolute top…

20170805082835-13b13634-me.jpg

AND WE DID IT!!!!! THE VERY VERY TOP!!!!

20170805082836-66f5df64-me.jpg

Wayne climbed on top of some rocks, and hit his Spot beacon- hoping to get the highest elevation reading on the chart. Lol.

20170805082836-88583175-me.jpg

Another mountain conquered with a great friend.

20170805082837-de34a27a-me.jpg

This man can also rock a selfie stick…

20170805082837-6887c2ec-me.jpg

I’m there!!! I did it!!!! ON THE TOP OF THE WORLD!!!

20170805082838-83149d53-me.jpg

Wow. Speechless.

20170805082838-0028d8e6-me.jpg

20170805082838-65d63fcf-me.jpg

Lol. This is funny. Started to take a selfie, realized Wayne was up on a rock slightly, lined the shot up, and said “Hey look. You’re taller than me for once.” This is the resulting pic. HAHA! I think he slugged me after this too…

20170805082839-d2c1e5c1-me.jpg

Walked back down to the parking lot. Can you see our bikes?

20170805082840-878ee874-me.jpg

There was a high wind warning on the mountain. Just a little windy... LOL!

20170805082840-169474c2-me.jpg

Mounted back up and headed down the hill.

20170805082840-265702c3-me.jpg

Passed this Ural. Cool!!

20170805082841-45e00a9a-me.jpg

Wayne was having fun on the corners on his bike…

20170805082841-956240b5-me.jpg

Beautiful!

20170805082842-7892e1dc-me.jpg

Split with Wayne for a bit, and I headed north towards the Loveland area. This road looked interesting…

20170805082842-0d563282-me.jpg

Dropped into a quaint little casino town…

20170805082842-9a3594ff-me.jpg

20170805082843-5631a87f-me.jpg

Then took 119, 72, and 7. Pretty mountains.

20170805082843-248df8a6-me.jpg

20170805082844-1744451f-me.jpg

That’s an interesting spot for a church!!

20170805082844-5e281d1b-me.jpg

Dropping into Estes Park…

20170805082844-827ecd7a-me.jpg

Cool rocks to drive through.

20170805082845-dba9b6c4-me.jpg

Stopped at a park to take a break. I was getting exhausted. I knew I only had about 30 miles to go. Part of me just wanted to get there. Part of me didn’t want to suit back up and get on the bike. I was ready to be done.

20170805082845-5a113827-me.jpg

Motivated myself enough to trudge on. Look! More horsies!!!

20170805082846-26d2ed32-me.jpg

Rt 34 follows a river through a canyon-y drive. Quite nice.

20170805082846-ac8abbfd-me.jpg

And then Wayne intercepted me and rode with me to the hotel. Made me smile.

20170805082846-8febb5e3-me.jpg

The rock striations were intriguing…

20170805082847-f2dfb1a0-me.jpg

20170805082847-a4d34017-me.jpg

Made it to the hotel. Met up with a few other riders. Then we headed for dinner. Nordy’s BBQ.
Having a good laugh in the parking lot while waiting for our tables.

20170805082848-2c3e321a-me.jpg

Rib tips, taters, fried Okra, and cornbread. It was yummy. I also realized it was the only “real food” I had eaten today. I guess oatmeal crème pies and fruit snacks don’t count as food. Maybe that’s why I was cranky…

20170805082848-c1620a1e-me.jpg

Went back to the hotel and hung out and chatted with everyone. It was great to catch up with old friends, and meet new ones.

Day 11

Saturday of SW-FOG. I took the morning to hang in the hotel and catch up on “me time”. Late morning, I took off and headed west into the Rocky Mountain National Park. Headed through the beautiful canyon, once again.

20170806000032-bca2441a-me.jpg

Started to come into some mountains…

20170806000033-b5343387-me.jpg

Huge shout of thanks to Abraham for loaning me his RMNP pass. Helped save $ tremendously, since all I wanted to do was drive through the park on the road.

20170806000033-d825f34e-me.jpg

Sure is purty…

20170806000033-fd7b054c-me.jpg

20170806000034-699fed19-me.jpg

First overlook that I stopped at was breathtaking.

20170806000034-74a5b9ca-me.jpg

20170806000035-fc869767-me.jpg

20170806000035-1ef51c22-me.jpg

And all the other overlooks were mesmerizing as well…

20170806000036-117efc52-me.jpg

20170806000036-685eeca3-me.jpg

Raining over there… but not here!

20170806000037-a9591f60-me.jpg

Such diverse topography…

20170806000037-531a4c37-me.jpg

The road? Oh, lets put it right through those rocks…

20170806000037-a4ad8d1e-me.jpg

Snow speckles the mountain sides…

20170806000038-7a0849ae-me.jpg

And a herd of elk also speckles the hill sides!!

20170806000039-0b5da5c1-me.jpg

Right on the edge…

20170806000039-d7f848ad-me.jpg

Overlooks were plenty. Gave lots of opportunities to stop and observe the beauty…

20170806000040-2de7bfea-me.jpg

Selfie time!!

20170806000040-cd6e0911-me.jpg

Wow!

20170806000041-7313f68c-me.jpg

I like my bike… and the scenery…

20170806000041-ea03f853-me.jpg

20170806000041-b1eeee70-me.jpg

Stopped on the west side, down in the valley, to eat some snacks, and then to turn around and head back east, through the park.

20170806000042-3755f6fe-me.jpg

20170806000042-0ca2293d-me.jpg

20170806000043-bbd3259a-me.jpg

Mr Happy has been enjoying his adventure. Though he only rides in the trunk, with a pringles can up his backside…

20170806000043-2fb3082a-me.jpg

And back through the park I go! Scenery is different when you turn around!

20170806000044-1d0d6c75-me.jpg

Elk again!

20170806000044-ada1119b-me.jpg

Mountains, valley, blue skies- it’s nice…

20170806000045-ea5ee1d7-me.jpg

20170806000045-7190658a-me.jpg

20170806000045-37fb4de1-me.jpg

I liked this rock protrusion…

20170806000046-f0c11d5b-me.jpg

One last overlook before I left the park…

20170806000046-4c1a8500-me.jpg

20170806000047-368ed23b-me.jpg

Down into the valley…

20170806000047-aafc3960-me.jpg

And into Estes Park. Very busy with traffic! But I did get to see this cool Prowler…

20170806000048-387c8bac-me.jpg

And then I had to return the pass card to Abraham. And they had just gotten back from their ride- so I swung by their home. I had first met him back in 2014 in Michigan. He might have been my first “man from the internet” that I rode to meet. Now he resides in Colorado with his awesome wife, Rachel.

20170806000049-c6fc42ee-me.jpg

And this is me almost dumping the bike backing out of their driveway… whoops!

20170806000049-ccc8e632-me.jpg

Back at the hotel, the bikes all grouped up together in the parking lot.

20170806001452-5a40539e-me.png

Then Abraham, Rachel, Tom, and Tom's wife (whose name has totally escaped my brain...) picked me up at the hotel and we went to dinner at 3 Margaritas. Delicious Mexican food!! Smothered deluxe beef burrito.

20170806000051-da828239-me.jpg

Lots of laughing at the dinner table!

20170806000052-63e575a6-me.jpg

Back to the hotel and we found most of the rest of the group hanging out outside.

20170806000052-f8d3bfb2-me.jpg

20170806000053-3ee94573-me.jpg

It was a nice group of like-minded riders having a good time!!

What does tomorrow have in store for me!?!?! More to look forward to!!

Day 12

Today, I made my way out of Colorado. I live east. But I headed north. Lol.

Look!! A marshmallow farm!!! HAHAHA!!!

20170806192821-d12ffeb7-me.jpg

Maybe I’m starting to get a little delirious…

The day started overcast, cool, and moist.

20170806192822-5f2b3bfa-me.jpg

I must be on a major route to Sturgis. Might explain why I was passing clumps of cruisers…

20170806192823-2b4cdb49-me.jpg

I actually ended up pulling over and putting on my heated jacket liner. That felt better! I also met this sharp dressed creature…

20170806192823-31889d69-me.jpg

Crossed into Wyoming. And I don’t remember seeing a sign. Maybe I just couldn’t see it…

20170806192823-eebee451-me.jpg

Thanks to a recommendation from Rachel, I made my way to a cluster of rocks in the middle of the open plains.

20170806192824-b14e49e0-me.jpg

Vedauwoo Rocks.

20170806192824-c80a6579-me.jpg

Pretty neat place! I was glad everything was paved that I drove on…

20170806192824-c48c853f-me.jpg

The pics don’t show the enormity of the rocks too well…

20170806192825-11f0d7b6-me.jpg

So unique!

20170806192825-84fddfeb-me.jpg

I had a little fun… lol.

20170806192825-bede8300-me.jpg

Thanks for the recommendation, Rachel! Neat place that I wouldn’t have thought was there!

20170806192825-7278c225-me.jpg

20170806192826-7f6b67af-me.jpg

20170806192826-917bf3ac-me.jpg

Back on I-80, I had passed this random tree in the median of the interstate. Luckily its accessible from both directions.

20170806192826-d347928c-me.jpg

20170806192827-b9e88dcc-me.jpg

20170806192827-d5ced56f-me.jpg

Also neat- I live near the Lincoln Highway in Ohio. Ride it often back in my state.

20170806192827-e8821a4a-me.jpg

Definitely an eye catcher…

20170806192828-672a7a10-me.jpg

Coming into Cheyenne…

20170806192828-38f01d86-me.jpg

I have always been intrigued by Wyoming. Strangely enough, I could see myself living there if something major were to make me move out there. It’s open, and uniquely pretty. I would want to be near a large city- just for ease of things in the winter. There are plenty of horses here too!! When I was younger, I was told that there are more horses in Wyoming than people!! Sounds perfect to me!!! Lol!

Cheyenne Frontier Days. They had just ended last weekend. Lots of history in that stadium.

Stopped at McDonald’s for a late lunch. Someone made sure to remind me to eat. Because otherwise I will forget… and I get hangry…

Back on the road and headed up a 2-lane road to my next destination. Wide open pastures…

Overnighting in Scottsbluff, NE. In the morning, I will head to the Scotts Bluff National Monument. And then I just start driving east…

Tomorrow is when I will need to get gritty. I’ve got 1200 miles to get home…

IMHO you are traveling the right way by taking the time to stop for stuff that so many others would just blow on by. I hit three museums in one day once in Oklahoma. All three were on a 100 mile loop and each one was superb in its own way.
