What Joe said...it's good to hear you're coming down Ray.

I wish you could make it down Phil, this a fun 3-4 hour route, nearly all of these roads have been paved in the last year or two.

And it's going to be close to 70 degrees...how often does that happen in mid December in Ohio?

Lets just hope the west coast keeps getting slammed by winter storms. I have had an acute understanding of how things works the last couple years (since I moved to PA) and California has had an epic drought...a.k.a. great winter weather. The polar vortex was a consequence for the midwest and mid-Atlantic.

December riding in the mid to upper 60s on clean roads? Not since California for me. I'm in.

In Pittsburgh, the East Parkway (I-376) is closed this weekend starting tonight, to prepare for demolition of the Greenfield bridge. Those not familiar, this is a concrete span that was in such terrible condition, a bridge was build under the span to catch falling chunks of concrete. As a result, I have to detour to I-70 which is not nearly as much fun as US22, and 2:40 hours of slab.

For the disbelievers:

Can't you just detour around that section, and still come in on US22?

The problem is, that is the main east west interstate artery across Pittsburgh. All detours will be congested, even on Sunday morning. There is no direct route, and detours pass through urban centers and are choked with traffic lights. You could easily get stuck over 2-hours for failing to avoid the detour.

This is a weekend closure. This segment will be closed between Christmas and New Years, and people commuting to work across town will be screwed. My daughter who has to work on the west side at a new job will be staying with a friend, rather than be home, because the detour will be impossible. The plan is to pile 11 feet of dirt on the freeway below, then blow the bridge, and clear the debris and the dirt, before reopening the freeway. This is just west of the Squirrel Hill Tunnel.

That's what you get for moving to Pittsburgh ...should have moved to Ohio.

See you Sunday morning

But then I could only ride on flat, boring roads.

Here (east) of Pittsburgh in the Laural Highlands, I can leave the house and be on twisty roads immediately. No travel required other than to enjoy the apex of the next curve or anti-gravity of the next rise, or compression of the dip. The biggest drawback is the deer. Next summer, I think I'll host an event from my home. You could find all the fun you'd need and never be more than 40 miles away. Switchbacks, steep grades, technical curves and long views from altitude. The best stuff is East, so it's weird to go ride in Ohio. Such are the sacrifices for friends.

If I had to leave CA, maybe I landed in the right spot. Especially since Winter has decided to bypass us for a while.

I have already committed to a RTE with a high school buddy that just started riding this year. Luckily, he is somewhat unreliable. If he bails, I'm heading to Ohio.

Son of a biscuit. I must have been looking at the distance from somewhere else. Google says it's a 5hr 22min ride from my door. That's not going to happen. I'm out.

Yo Bugnatr, meet you in Omaha at High Noon! JSNS, Interstate 80 Eastbound!
Dougie Bear Bugs, passing through Chi-Town; damn it's cold here, should have left Phoenix with more than my Levi vest, chaps and fingerless gloves!

Well the first post looks like an open invitation so hopefully I'm not overstepping any boundaries.... I'm in.

10:30- Correct?

No boundaries, you're welcome to join us.

Correct,10:30 at the Duke station at SR 93 and I70.it's the Adamsville exit, about 5 miles East of Zanesville.

See you in the morning.

Back safe at 5:45, beer poured, catching up on the big Steelers win and BROWNS win today.

465 miles on the clock, which isn't bad for December 13, but not nearly as far as Bseelbach, who came in from Detroit today, and was returning tonight. He should have over 800 miles on the day. Great safe ride everyone! Lots of fun. I think Gray Ray got his tire scrubbed in, and still made his hockey game.

Bunch of old guys on fast bikes. Well, Bseelbach isn't gray yet, but give him time. We're working on it, and pointed out he's short.
