Well the process has began. Setting up my true loves 2009 FJR. Ordered a set of Phillips 4G PHID's from Bruno. What a nice guy. What are all ya all recomending for light mounting brackets?

Thanks,

Carl Stark

Garauld makes light brackets that mounts under the mirrors, he is a members of the fourm, FYI if you plan on getting FZ1 mirrors for the FJR I would get the Gen1 brackets for the lights, they fit better at the base.

I think the Skyway mirror brackets are the best, more solid and IMHO better angle/positioning. Unfortunately it looks like they are currently out of stock.

Smitty recently built a big bracket that's similar in positioning to the Skyway one. As much as I am function over form i just don't like the big rail running across the bike...

I love Garauld's work, and his light brackets are very good for lightweight lamps like the Hella FF50s.

But the 4GHID lamps are too large and too heavy for Gerauld's brackets. You will find the lamp beam will bounce around significantly when running over bumps/railroad tracks/etc, because the moment arm created using the 4GHID will cause the Gerauld bracket to flex excessively.

You need the beefier Top Gun brackets from FJRGoodies.com to hold heavier lamps such as the PIAA 910, the Futurevision 4GHID, the massive Eclipse lamps, and others. The Gen I's are braced with a wrap-around arm; the Gen II's have no wrap-around mounting points, rather, they are made from substantially thicker bracket material to compensate.

4GHID lamps on my Gen I FJR:

With no wrap-around for the Gen IIs, here are the substantially thicker Top Gun brackets for that generation of FJRs (seen here holding up the mondo-hefty Eclipse HIDs on a 2007)

Wow, these look good, but boy it looks like a simple tip over or a low speed low-side is going to do a lot more damage with these, sliders or not.
Yes, they look awesome, but sadly enough, the light output is abysmal on these lamps. I tested them out for the manufacturer.... I was brutally dissapointed. Quite frankly, they are an exceedingly poor lamp for any serious LD work, and I am being very kind with this assessment....

I recall that Alex was building some brackets for some 4" HID lights, as discussed as part of the "Cheap HID" thread. (If I was more computer savvy, I could probably install the link . . . but I'm not.)
