I attended a local limited showing of "Hitting The Apex." For anyone that is unaware it's a recounting of recent MotoGP history, the major players and their struggles with the tracks, the bikes and each other. There is enough backstory provided that non riders and neophytes can follow along without any difficulty. The film was a bit long and could've been edited a little more concisely and the filmmakers monologue at the beginning could easily been edited out and probably will be an option on the cd to follow.

The riders were portrayed fairly and some of them really looked like egocentric ****s focused entirely upon themselves and their careers. It was very enlightening to hear the series director explain how and why the current penalty points system is in place. I don't want to be a spoiler so many details have been left out for you, the gentle viewer to discover on your own. I highly recommend the movie for anyone who is a motorbike enthusiast or race fan, you won't be disappointed but bring a cushion because you'll need it.

We attended this movie here in the Bay Area last night. I agree that it was a worthwhile showing, especially for anyone who enjoys the MotoGP class but doesn't live and breathe it. Most of the footage is available elsewhere, but Mark Neale and company did a good job of piecing things together to tell the multi-year story in a fairly succinct fashion while hitting the highlights...there are many every year. Standouts for me were, despite his somewhat brash riding style, the amount of love that Marco Simoncelli elicited from (almost) everyone, the slo-mo closeups of everyone slipping and sliding, particularly at COTA, and of course, as the OP mentioned the sequence targeting the rationale and rider behind the origin of the current penalty system.

If you're planning to attend, as with most limited-showing events such as Hitting the Apex, Why We Ride, etc., then do show up early....30-45 minutes prior to the scheduled start time at the latest. Overall, it's worth a viewing, especially when hanging out with 50-75 of your closest riding friends.

Just download the damn thing and watch it at home....that's what I did. It's VERY good!

Went to the Charlotte NC show last night, had seen the movie at home on the link above but that couldn't hold a candle to seeing it on a BIG screen. {and man those screens are BIG, seems a different aspect ratio than other screens}. The 110 mile ride home was a little chily. LOL
