Holy Cow! No more cruisers for me!

Well, I picked up an '06 1300A this past weekend. My other bike is a Roadstar 1700 and woah what a difference an FJR is!

I told a budy "I think this thing's wired into my brain!". You think go and you're gone. You think stop and you're already stopped. You don't even think about steering the damn thing, you just think "go there" and barely shift a butt cheek and you're there.

I'm amazed how much safer I feel on the FJR than any other bike I've had in the past too. It's just so nimble.

Power windshield is AWESOME too!

I've only put 100 miles on it in the last couple days and this weekend will be my 1st long ride to see how I fair comfort/fatigue wise on this bike after a good 4-6 hours. It's never been a problem for me on the Roadstar so I hope the FJR will be the same.

I agree totally! I also moved from a cruiser to the 06A, and another little thing I noticed is that I can go much slower. Like... when coming up to a red light, you slow down as much as you can so you don't have to come to a complete stop .... I can control it at a slower speed than my cruiser. I wonder if this is a function of the rake angle? Of course there's a ton of other things I like about the bike, but I'm preaching to the choir.

Anyway, it's a great bike, and welcome to the FJR world!

Welcome. I've had bikes of just about ever category and the FJR beats them all, hands down. Unfortunately, you're about to spend more time here and on the Web hunting down farkles than you are riding!

If you're like many who come over from cruiserdom, the 4-6 hour ride you mention will probably leave you wishing you had taller and more aft bars and a more sitting-dog riding position. You can avoid this by adopting a riding (sitting?) style that isn't intuitive but works. Here's a thread about it. It sounds goofy and you'll probably feel goofy at first, but it works, eliminating hand/wrist pain, numbness of the thumbs, and the hot spot in the lower neck/upper back. I have no desire to change the bars or seat so long as I remember to ride like Master Yoda:

• Sit aft on the seat and bend forward at your hips, not your waist, maintaining a slight belly-forward/shoulders-back arch in your back
• Using your thigh muscles, apply pressure on the pegs so that much of your weight is on your feet and you are sitting lightly in the seat
• With your elbows slightly bent, rest your hands lightly on the bars

Done properly, you'll put very little weight on the bars and can ride all day in comfort.

OH KNOW THE SECRETS OUT. Now that the secrets out everybody will buy one and the demand will go up. If demand go's up so will PRICE! I was still hoping the majority of the street market would still buy HD and HD "look a-likes". Oh I just remembered price is based primarly on demand not performance. So as long as the majority of the motorcycle market buys on fashion not performance demand and price will not sky- rocket. To me thats a Cake and Eat It situation! But just in case keep it a secret!!

I too, once had a Roadstar (1600). Let's just say...I never missed it.

Yes it is, rake and trail actually. The "raked" look cruisers employ to give that lifestyle look contributes to their shitty handling, so much so that dedicated cruiser types are uncomfortable with a bike that has proper geometry, and don't know what to do with the new found handling capabilities. The same of course happens when a sport pilot gets on a cruiser-everything one knows is out the door, first corner is as fearful a manuever as one can think of.

Welcome ! After I traded the Royal Star for the FJR I wondered why it took me so long to find out about this great bike. After 24,500 miles ('05), I still smile when I think about riding ...

Also, there should be no more 'tingly spine' or 'dead buns' syndrome. Prolly gonna want to change the seat if you do rides far longer than to the local Hooters...

Funny, I've been pulled over twice, once with a performance award (p/u bike 7/27/06). Had the vstar 5 years, never once got looked at by the po's :huh: Hard to stay under 100 without the irrigation motor blasting my melon with the vibes. Try to run through an entire tank of gas without stopping. With a load(tent, sleepin bag, etc) my best is 277 miles on 6.47 gallons of gas, not once was it under 85..... B)

Now, wait a second or two, it was down I-25 Colorado where they know how to set a speed limit....at 75, and the 3 that were north bound never looked twice(beginning to wonder how off my speedo is). Now, in lovely NM, the drop the SOB down to 65, and that is a big drop if you just spent 3 hrs doin 85, and there ain't a way out, only a little, "Well, can you help me a little by dropping that to maybe 10 over?" At this point, I found out my speedo is pretty on, and CSP must be all right with 10 over. I could have got a CC with that money.....

Yep, the FJR is awesome! No argument. But I could show you how to ride that cruiser and surprise people, too I'm gonna have a hard time getting rid of my crusier - it's still fun as hell, and I love sticking with guys in the twisties and getting "the look". Golden.
