We need to post up an 'Alaska Someday' thread, it's on my horizon as well.

Who has two thumbs and is happy for you and envious as all hell.

"This guy!"

So I guess we will all be doing alot more dirt roads next year

sweet ride, enjoy
Don't worry. This bike should let me get my off road fix, so when I ride with the Feejer crowd maybe I won't feel the need to drag you down so many dirt roads.

(Yeah right... )

(Wheelie yet?)
Within about 5 minutes of ownership (and somewhat inadvertently), yes.

First time I rolled it on good in first, with that short wheelbase and torquey motor, the front end comes up like a dog beggin' for treats. ;)

you *******... :assassin:

Thanks Mike! :p

And thanks to everyone else for all of the congrats. This has been a long time coming, but that anticipation and delayed gratification makes it all the mo' bettah. Should be a lot of fun getting it the way I want and then getting out there and using it and abusing it!!

I'm sure that once the PDP'ers start getting their Tenare deliveries you can shift your envy over to them.

I'll add a belated congratulations. This means I won't be letting you lead rides anymore ;)

If you would like to borrow my brother's Tom Tom it seems to only find dirt roads. For one real adventure his TT had us barreling down a paved road (according to the TT) which was actually dirt and when we came upon a bridge at high speed -- the bridge wasn't there anymore. Yeehaw, and after a bucket load of ABS we did stop before having to deploy the parachutes.

Concord -- Freedom?

Congrats, Fred. I had a WeeStrom 4 years ago, and it was a great bike. It sounds like you know a bit about the DL and its FI issues. Probably you'll want to change the sprockets to up the revs a bit, as many have done with all the Stroms. Best of luck, and I'm sure you'll enjoy it. A lot.

You are a lucky man Fred. My wife will ONLY let me have one bike. Did have an ATV for a bit but it cut into her FJR time so it's gone now. Enjoy it.

Tom

Hmmm, Man-Strom: $3,800.

Power Commander, new sprockets, crash bars, hard cases, Alaska-ready windscreen, gravel capable tires, heavy-duty skid plate, LD seat, cold weather mods (grips, vest, you name it) and miscellaneous unanticipated, but inevitable, additional expenses, goodies, and farkels: A LOT.

Sounds like you already knew about all that, though. And your wife also did, right? ;)

And yeh, I'm jealous too. Have fun. Swing by Sacramento, why don't you?

No, no, no. Never calculate the costs of riding. And especially don't let your wife know how much you spend. Sheesh, I gotta teach you guys everything. ;)

Guys, guys... please turn in your man cards!! What's up with all this "spousal approval" stuff, fer chissakes?

I guess if I was spending HER money then just maybe I'd ask for her permission.

The truth of the matter is, I just sold off my old '99 Jeep Wrangler as it was sitting in the driveway rusting away and not getting used by anyone. So since the Wrangler was MINE, no approvals required.

Besides, earlier this summer when I sold off my Triumph Trophy with the intent of getting a Vstrom then, I voluntarily used those funds to buy the wife unit a new used car to replace the old Exploder she was driving around (when it wasn't broken). I say voluntarily because I was really getting tired of always having to fix the FORD. And I found her a nice '04 Jeep Liberty w/ 4WD, V6, 5 speed manual. The perfect ladies car!

[edit] One more observation: As I graze through the myriad of posts on the multiple 'Strom forii, it makes me appreciate this one right here all the more.

I just sold my Blazer.. the money went directly into my get Bungie a Yammie WR250R fund. I'm thinking this spring fo sho!

Oh, and now spousal unit approval required here. Being single has its advantages.

And anything you mail order, tell them to put in a really big box...

Ahhh-Yup!

Spousal approval? That's where mine would insert, "NO!" whenever I would begin to ask her opinion about anything not directed toward her or her girl-cubs.

Disclaimer: The above experience is mine and mine alone and is not to be confused with any other spousal units. Some of them around here are absolute gems. I hope their husbands appreciate how fortune has smiled on them.

Pardon me while I wipe the drool off! Nice ride Fred! Looks like the price can't be beat either. Someday I will end up with a DS as a garage mate for my FJR.

So, I've had a chance to get out on the new-ish Man-strom a couple of times this week. It does have a few of the standard known V-strom "issues" which is probably why the PO opted to trade it in at a FORD dealership, based upon the title history I was made privy to at the point of sale. What a tool!! Who tries to trade a bike at a car dealership? You are bound to take a major beat-down.

Anyway... I know that this will be a somewhat controversial and, dare I say, unpopular opinion on this forum (hey, that;s nothing new for me, I'm not skeered :p ) but even with the few things that I do need to sort out on this bike, after riding it around a few of the scarred up New England back roads for the past few days, I am VERY impressed! To the point of wondering how exactly the FJR is much better than the V-strom!!

Now, I'm not so impulsive as to ditch my heavily farkled, perfectly running, most Beloved Bass Bote Blue beauty for this new (to me) Vee. I'm lucky enough to be able to keep a few murdercycles in the garage at once. But, if I were not, I have to tell you, especially for these beat-up North Eastern road surfaces, I can't find a major weakness of the Vstrom (at least in this, the more manly 1k version) that makes the FJR a clear winner over a V-strom.

I'll gladly go into my thought processes (if prompted) but I just thought I'd throw this bait out there and see if some of the other folks that have them, or have considered them, have any thoughts.

To Vee or not to Vee? That is the question...

(PS - I imagine many of the S10 Ray crowd will be pondering these same question is nigh short time.)

Try riding it 450-500 miles in a single day and then compare it to an FJR.

Arrrghh! I say Vee Fred. Let's Vee!

Hey, are you going to put a Russel Manstrom Seat Buy together? If so, I'm in!

Been thinking of getting a 'Strom for Alaska myself...
I was thinking about this thread last night...

Sooze and I were out with some friends after orchestra rehearsal last night. There was a couple there who rides - she's got a Ducati Monster and he's got a Wee. She's so pregnant she's about to pop and has basically sold her Duc to her dad.

And he's looking at selling his Wee.

It's a yellow '08 and low miles. He said he'll be asking what he owes on it come spring (or before, if I so choose, of course).

Uh-oh...
