I have a Givi V46 top case I bought used. It's in fine condition except for the lower pushbutton which releases the case from the bike.

The lock has no effect on this button. The plastic tab on the top of the button mechanism is gone -- sheared off. Anyone can grab the case off the bike.

Is there a better way of locking the case to the bike? I can install a new, lockable button but it's awfully flimsy and apparently easily broken if someone wants the case.

Agree with Whooshka; over the years, I have experimented with various home-brew Pelican case-based alternative tail trunk solutions on my 2004 and 2013 FJRs.

I created a sturdy aluminium mounting plate as an interface with the Givi mount adapter, and after some careful measurements (measure thrice(!), drill once), I used a set of marine grade male/female interlocking slide brackets to mechanically locate my Pelican tail trunk.

To ensure it didn't wiggle loose, OR walk away in the hands of a miscreant, I then installed two machine bolts from the underside of the custom mount plate, and inside the Pelican case, used medium sized wingnuts to cinch it down nice and tight. I do use oversize rubber grommets as bumpers too, because we all know things vibrate a bit back there on day long trips.

This works well for me, has never been tampered with yet (6 years, ~ 60K miles ridden), especially because I tend to leave that tail trunk mounted throughout my ~ 7 month riding season each year.
