Steve - sorry to read about this, most assuredly not only because it happened, but because it happened right when the riding is starting to get good. Guess your wife and daughter will have to keep the oil circulating on the feej for a little while.

One day at a time. Cheers, my friend.

Jeeze...And I thought I was the only one God hates. Lol...Kidding. Glad you're ok. Lost my appendix when I was 13.
AJ, rumor has it, your doc sold it to Beemerdons to use as a boda bag.

To OP, glad you got there in time, almost lost my Dad to the same issue as his burst at home in the mid 1960s. Life is fragile and glad your wife was listening closer at the time than you were. Often we're not the best judge of how we're feeling, we need to trust the judgement of others who know and care about us and put our manly macho BS aside.

Glad you're back, Steve.

Err.......Vic, it was the other guy.....Rob. :not_i:

LMAO.

What a harrowing tale Rob. So glad we will be riding together again.
Yeah! I noticed that right after I sent it. I decided to leave it there. I keep mixing your names up. You guys look too much alike. Not my fault. :D

All right you two, that's enough! ;)

Last night I ate my first food in a week, and not some broth, jello, and Luigi's Lemon Ice. Grilled chicken breast, mashed potatoes, and green beans. Nothing super flavorful, but tangible. I was cautious anyway, and only ate a few bites of each. Doc said to have X-ray first thing in the morning (today) and I might go home. This morning I was taking X-rays at 6:30. I felt good, with no cramping or abdominal pains. Got back to the room and ordered breakfast. Pancakes, oatmeal, strawberries, and a milk. Pancakes sucked, so did the oatmeal. So I had a couple of berries and milk. I'm ready to go!

About 10:30a, my chunky nurse, with an odd attitude, comes into the room and tells me "I see your doctor has released you.", "Oh yeah?" I say, and she goes on to tell me she's going to start the paper work, and bee-bops out the door. I don't question her, I just want to go home, so I call wifey and tell her to cancel her manicure, and "Get me outta' here!".

About 11:30a wifey and I are packing, and waiting on doc's signature for release......but no doc. IV has been taken out, paperwork gone over, including has to wash your hands correctly.

Seriously? We are doomed as a people, because of something started 2000+ years ago (washing hands), that to this day....still can't do correctly. WTF, why can't we learn how to do this? Sounds like a question Monty Python should explore.

Anyway, everything's done and just waiting on the doc...and waiting....and waiting. Then BOOM! There she is! She starts by asking how I feel. Told I've felt better (being honest), and that abdomen is hurting a bit. "Well" she says, "I'm not releasing you today, sorry.". She didn't like the morning X-ray, and how it compared to previous days X-rays. She told us I have Ileus of the small intestine, which means my small intestine is asleep, it won't move....yet. So until it starts up, I'm not leaving. Also, my abdomen is really distended, bloated out like a large balloon. This is another concern for her. So, now to get me an IV put in and get settled in to my room again.

This sucked, but I understand, and admire my doctor for going against the popular choice and standing up saying "you're not well enough to go home, so I'm keeping you here.".

Thanks to all of you for the well wishes!

Glad you have a good doc, but that nurse got your hopes up, so that sucked. But yer well enough to type, so that's good...but yer typin' from a hospital, so that sucks...

Hope wifey didn't punch you in the stomach for making her miss her manicure

Maybe if they let your wife bring you some decent food your intestine would wake up. Even the best hospital food is crap compared to home cooking.

Gee, kind of makes you hanker for that socialist, state-sponsored universal health care, don't it?

Look at the bright side. Someday, when you and the other old geezers gather at a coffee shop and talk about everyone's ailments, you will have the best story.

Well, sorry. Get better, LKLD, and ... I can identify. My abdomen is noticeably distended, too. If you figure out how to get them 'unswollen', let me know, OK?

When I was in sixth grade, a classmate, Ricky, didn't show up one day. His family was second generation Hispanic, from the poor side of the tracks (literally - they lived across from the train station). Ricky didn't get treated for his stomach pain until he was doubled over, and the medics called. It was too late, and Ricky died later. I can't remember the names of half my six grade pals, but I remember Ricky's name.

Glad you got treated in time.

Well, I'm home. After 10 days of a hospital stay, and countless tests. I didn't realize how much the isolation in a hospital room affected me. Since being home (2 days), my psyche has improved greatly. Now I have to get my energy back, so I can get my bike again...I've missed her.

I want to say thank you to everyone who wished me well, and words of encouragement.

Thank you,

Rob
