I've barely just enough disposable income to consider racing motorcyles (since I just cut up my wife's credit card.)

Do any of you race, and do you have any advice for how I might get started?

here is a link to the active racing orgainzations listed in Road racing World. This is pretty comprehensive list for amature organizations in the USA and profesional orgainzations in the world.

I would suggest getting involved with helping at the track first, such as corner working and learn how they operate. Most organizations are always looking for help. Gives you a chance to see how the racing thing goes and gets you a front row seat for the action. Then you get to meet the racers in the pits and see what they run and how they prep them to race.

Good way to learn.

Ahhh, dirt or road race? I'll assume road bikes.

Track days. Meet people. Join clubs.
Gunny.
I did started dirt bike racing by joining the race club and just doing it. Many clubs out there, WERA is a club for people starting out, and not. Do a Google search etc.

BTW - You will piss $$ faster then gambling, but enjoy, it is fun.

I highly recommend you go into lightweight racing. You can peruse the WERA classifieds for a Fizzer400 or Hawk 650 or the like. You're not going to win anyway, so don't risk your ass in the 600 Nervous class. Every immortal 22 year-old with a GSX-R600 and a credit card runs in that class and it can get scary.

Well said. The ones who run the twins classes tend to remember they go to work on Monday and that they are not the next Valentino. A SV 650 is also a good choice.

Also vintage if your inclined. But be prepared for a lot of mechanical maintenance to keep it running.
