OK. What removes the smell of skunk? Wife says the bike can't stay in the garage until I get it clean. Anything will be helpful. thank you. 'Nough said.

This has been a screwed up year putting it nicely.

My Mom's dog got sprayed by a skunk while she was gone for the day...took a direct hit to the face. To make matters worse, he came back in through the dog door and proceeded to roll all over the bed, couch and carpet.

It is absolutely disgusting. She tried the different 'remedies' out there like the juice and some other stuff but it didnt work. She ended up going to Petsmart and they had some skunk removal stuff that did the trick (for the most part) on the dog but she had to call in professionals for the whole house cleaning.

Can I pee on his bike?

Really, I don't know for sure. And, I have no idea how you would accomplish this, but Celery can nulify the **** out of some nasty odors. I don't have any actual experience with celery and a skunk, but the next time you have stink-fingers from an onion or such, just cut some celery and rub liberally.

1 quart of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide; ½ cup of baking soda and 1 tablespoon of liquid dish or laundry detergent. Mix in an OPEN container.

Put it directly on what got "skunked" as it's a contact deodorizer, let it sit about 5 minutes, and rinse. If the batch gets older than 15 minutes, you need to make up a new batch as it's the chemical reaction that does the trick. Found this on the web about 3 years back, and worked well for me.

Pee, lemon juice, tomato juice, doesn't do a damn thing in my experience.

EDIT: FYI, this works on animals as well, if your dog gets attacked

Try all of the above concoctions and then wait 8 weeks. The smell will be hardly noticeable until you ride in the rain!

Just a thought...

Mythbusters did a skunk odor bit a while back, try the Discovery Channel and see if you can find that episode.

Good luck

Tomato juice.

Oh....and vodka....plus a few stalks of celery and some horseradish.

Mix well - drink down - and you won't notice the bike's stench so much....

What a riot! So I had a pet skunk as a kid (named flower no less). The reality is that of you clean it as best as possible the rest is really time. you will hear everyone say tommato juice, piss and so on. I really dont think any of them work

Sounds like a good time to take a week off and go riding....smell should be gone by the time you get back..

B) This works.. I have a roudy Jack Russel who hates skunks. Sprayed once in our back yard and twice on nightly walks. Now we go only with a flash light. There eyes reflect the light and we move away. finally getting wise.

What works is 1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup baking soda ( sodium bicarbonate ), and a teaspoon of liquid detergent.Rinse then repeat if necessary. It will change the chemical make-up of skunk spray.

Thanks, Dan
