So, NAFO '10 is in the bag. Time to start thinking about EOM 2011.

Not that this is going to happen, but some of the locals in the upper right corner here have floated the idea of us possibly being host to an EOM up here in Northern New England/ Upstate NY. No detailed discussions have taken place yet, but it has got the wheels in my brain a turnin'.

There is plenty of great riding up here in the Green, White and Adirondack Mountains. The roads may not be "Cherry Cola Skyway" or "Tail of the Squids" quality, but the scenery is quite awesome, and it might be a nice change to move EOM out of the southland for a year. Being further to the North would also allow us to have the event in the late summer (August most likely) which would allow some people (like educators) to attend that can't go in September. It also gets us out of the autumn tropical storm and hurricane pattern that has tended to dampen the prior events held in September.

So, if we can actually get our **** together, and we can form a committee and find a nice venue, how, or who, does one solicit to make a bid to host a regional Owner's Meeting, specifically EOM?

Is there an EOM czar? Or do you just go to the last hosts?

I haven't been riding up there since 1986 , and would come for sure!

And, do the recently shell shocked NAFO attendees have an interest in EOM North? A number of the FJR Owners from South of the Mason/Dixon line have ridden through this area, do you see this as a desirable location for EOM? Mr Ashe, step up to the microphone...

I believe the players in the EOM area stand in a line shoulder to shoulder, facing forward, and then someone asks this question and everyone else in the line takes a step back leaving you in front.

FredW, sounds to me like you just elected yourself to host a NorthEast event. :D

Moving "EOM" from September to an earlier/different month has long been a personal desire of mine. We have many FJRs belonging to educators and parents of school-age children who find it difficult (if not downright impossible) to do a big trip just as school begins.

My YankeeLoop2008 tour was wonderful. Mt. Washington NH, Letchworth State Park NY/Grand Canyon of the East, Blue Mountain Lake NY/Adirondacks... all beautiful places to visit and gawk. Those areas would definitely be attractive for 2-up touring and IMHO would draw more "touring" types than the hard twisties of the southeast.

I vote we all stay with (FJR)Ed & Grace, and basecamp ride from their house.

There has been some discussion in the past about holding EOM in the northeast. At the time we didn't have anyone willing to step up to the plate and organize it. Personally, I think the Adirondacks, Greens, and Whites are very well suited. In any case, wherever it is held I plan to be there. :)

Well you know my opinion Fred. I already told you that I think there are plenty of worthy roads to ride all over the northeast. I like the idea of having it a little earlier in the year too. the northeast certainly has my vote for EOM 2011.

If you can line it up so it falls earlier in the summer (July?) it would be great as it would fit in nicely with CFR in New Brunswick ( assuming that will be late June, nothing official yet).

Love that part of the world, and EOM North would give me a great excuse to come back there to play. Very interested!

The north east gets my vote! Had a great time at the Greens/Whotes this year, and since we got rained out on the second day, I have some roads to catch up on.

Traditionally & as far as I can tell, whoever wants to step up and plan an EOM has done so. There is no official group to ask. If there is, it is new to me. Within the past couple of years I have witnessed folks actually wanting to plan the meet. Gone are the days of 10 foot pole marks on EOM. I think that the northeast would be a great place to plan a meet... & quite a pleasant change of scenery.

Fred,

You know I'd be willing to help any way I can. I may even be able to get a local (to me) Yamaha dealer on board with us. Or another idea would be to "piggy back" on the Killington Classic next year (it's around the first weekend of September IIRC). Just food for thought.

Tom

Fred, you are elected, that's the way it worked for CFR.

I'm only a couple of hours from Stowe so if you need some help let me know.

Chris

Heidi answered the actual question: Who do you ask. The answer: There is really nobody to ask, you just have to do it

Thanks for that.

It sounds like there may be a good amount of interest in doing one up North sometime soon. But I do not want to step on any toes, nor do I want to dillute the attendance to EOM by having a NorthEast and a SouthEast version, so I will probably check with J Willy and his gang to be sure they don't already have something in the works. If they do, the Northeast one could wait or vice versa.

One key takeaway from NAFO is that, for maximum turn out, the planning will need to be completed EARLY, ideally have the What When Where by Jan 1st, so that people can make their vacation arrangements. That is the main reason I'm kicking this around now. We'd only have 3 months to put something together in that case.

As to having it in July there are a few problems with that. One, it gets really hot in July and the riding can be miserable, even up here in the mountains. It is also prime vacation time for families, both those that come to the Mountains of NE and those who own FJRs all around the country that might want to attend. For that reason, I think that late August is the premium option for New England riding and weather. Things are starting to cool off and the tourists are pretty much spent.

go for it Fred...sounds great...I have not been motivated to ride up there becuase of distance, but this will help make that experience happen

farthest north Izabella has been is Wash DC

NOTE: my kids in the New Orleans area started their high school year Aug 18th...I assume that is not unusual around the country in this "no one left behind" climate

I also might have a roadblock that my oldest daughter makes 18 on Aug 20th, but of course that's my and my family's issue

Good to know about the early school start, Mike. I had not considered that some schools started earlier.

I will take that into consideration and maybe earlier in August will be the best plan.

PS - Washington DC is considered "Down South" to us Yankees... ;)

Hell yeah!! EOM farther northeast, and not in September would be perfect. It'll be a little longer trip for me, but what do I care. I will definately attend, barring some kind of crazy conflict!
