How fast have you ever been on a motorcycle?

Back in '01, ran my CBR 1100 for 3 miles at an indicated 183 mph running a GSXR 1000. His speedometer read 186...but I was ahead of him! Scared the daylights out of me but it was fun!

BTW...this was done on a divided highway at 3AM with NO traffic!

On the FJR: 147mph- GPS confirm May 13th, 2005 1:37pm. In the great state of Nevada on hwy 361 , clear sky, 51degrees, full load with hard bags or was I going to fast to remember?

151 mph gps verified on multiple level runs with no bags, FJR.

Before that, 136 mph on Warrior.

Crossing the Mojave, on a hotted up FJ1100, the speedo said 165 and change. Probably puts the actual between 150~155mph.

The speed isn't what I remember most, though. It was how eerily steady the bike was at that speed.

Probably the best sensation of speed was riding the front straight of Thunderhill Raceway on my Ducati and tucking in near the wall to get out of the crosswinds. Was doing about 130mph before I braked for turn one, but seeing that wall blurr to my right really got my attention.

I've only had the Feejer to about 120mph. That was with the bags on now that I think about it.

156 mph on my Aprilia a few weeks ago. Aprilia's speedo is read off the rear wheel and is accurate to +/- 1 mph. So......156 mph it is! Not bad considering I had a tank bag on and could only get my chin behind the windscreen.

I've shortened my gearing by two teeth in the rear because stock gearing was a bit to tall. At 156 mph, I still had about 400 RPM to go until redline. I could have gone much faster with the stock gearing as the bike was still pulling pretty hard.

Actually, I've been around 140 (maybe 138) or so in the uk on the M40, going downhill between J2 and J3 (I think those are the ones, before it heads up hill toward wycombe/marlow). Anyway, the thing that terrified me was after I let off the throttle, I caught my breath, relaxed a bit, then realized I was still doing 100 and I had better pay attention.

I've touched 120 (GPS) on the FJR. Not as fast as a lot of you, but it was quick for me.

And it wobbled almost as fast! Worst handling road racer I ever competed on. Fast, but scared the snot out of you everywhere with its flexi-flyer chassis...Dallara
Have any of you ridden the early 70's Kawasaki 750 2 stroke triple? I think it was the H2 or something like that.

I was terrified after going into the first corner and thinking the redar wheel and seat were coming off. I could find nothing loose and limped back to the dealer with a "Whats up with this?" attitude. I was told to get used to it, the bike has a very flexible frame due to inadequate gusset welding, etc. Well, I rode it for 2 years and it was like a E ride, scary and very fast. I think I pulled the front wheel off in every gear and even rode some long haul trips on that *******.

Traded it for a 900 Kaw Z1B and what a difference.

Mine was 156 indicated on my 2001 R1. I don't mind going fast, but I hate stupid. So, for me to do it, I was in Utah, near Golden Spike, Utah on the road going to ATK Thiokol (think Challenger). I had clear visibility on a road that I could see for 20 miles or so.

It was empty. It was desolate. It was a great day. As I approached the speed, I only dared to look down long enough to see the speedo and back up.

The wind noise was so loud, then what I dropped back to 100, it seems like I was moving at 20 miles an hour. Almost seemed like I could jump off the bike and jog next to it. Since then, 100 just doesn't seem very fast.

215 indicated on the GPS. That was on a turbo'd busa owned by Hank Booth. He is the one who won the horsepower shootout at Daytona last year. I think he was a little upset with me, he only got 214 out of it, but he made up for it later with a lot faster stuff out at Bonneville later. It was in Montana and we had stretch of interstate with no entrances for about 10 miles and we made sure no one had come by for at least 2 minutes so there was no traffic in front of you. The bike at that time was making about 325 hp at the rear wheel and would power wheelie at 180 in the over geared 5th gear, that was a ride. It really made my R1 feel pretty slow.

None of this will NEVER happen again. . . Ok never say never. But on my CBR 900RR in Berlin, MD I was clocked at 164mph. I still had a lot more room to go. Two stupid things happened that day, 1. stopped for the cop and 2. I stopped for the cop.

Got the silver braclet award, mulitiple and I mean mulitple performance awards. I nice night in their local lodging facility of choice. By the end of my short stay we were laughing and joking. But the initial introduction was not fun!

Hmmm, the FJR moves ohh so well above 100mph. . . .

As per a radar gun on pit wall at Texas World Speedway, 161 MPH on a bad-ass 1047cc Kawasaki Z-1 based superbike back in 1980... And it wobbled almost as fast! Worst handling road racer I ever competed on. Fast, but scared the snot out of you everywhere with its flexi-flyer chassis...
You know...most of the riders today (exception being us old farts....who rode that junk) would kill themselves trying to ride an old stupid bike like that today  ....ah youth it's wasted on the young.... ;)
Yep -- I had a '75 Z-1. Last bike I did a get off from, in fact -- in 1977. I can testify about the handling and nearly shitting my pants in corners I would suddenly realize I had gotten into way too fast. Hold on and pray. Can't imagine riding it that fast on the race track, though that was probably the only halfway sane venue in which to experience its cornering skills. Bias ply tube tires and stock suspension + that frame = YIKES!

1 :D 56 last weekend on the FJR. Ran out of room before I could red line it. Maybe next weekend.

 141 on my 05 FJR...with hard bags, passenger bag, tank bag and givi trunk-about 110 lbs worth of gear! Somewhere close to the New Mexico/Mexico border Oct. 04...then the 50 mile an hour side gust hit my flying sail missle and my brassies got about the size of peas...road out the wobble from hell and checked my shorts for debris! :good:

 143 again on the 05 FJR...Highway 71 AZ, December 05...with tank bag, passenger bag and givi trunk! Still had plenty more to give but I felt guilty going as fast as I've ever been before on anything (88 Vette) espescially with the gear I had on the FJR!

I'm looking forward to letting it run without any anchors! :tease:

Went 181 on a turbo Kawaski drag bike I owned 20 years ago. You have no idea what it's like to accelerate that hard. Did go 165 on a Suzuki 'Busa that belonged to a friend. Don't ride that fast anymore.
