How hot is too hot?

Ripped my helmet off at 106 degree thru Bakersfield, CA, because I thought I could not breath. But I was wrong and wanted to get home so I rode thru 109 degrees! Stops being fun above 102 when I have to zip up the Stich like it is cold outside. This keeps some of the heat off me, but is not pleasant.

Went out Sunday to the test ride my new Shoei. When the thermometer showed 100 I stopped for a short break, then decided to go back home. 95 is about my max. I was "well done" inside of an hour.

Oh yeah, the venting on the Shoei Multi-tec let lots of hot air flow through.

Geez............................too hot, too cold, too wet, too icy.........am I gonna be a whining little ****** when I get old, too? That's gonna suck moist *** cheese.
Keep it up ya "Donkeyrapingshiteater", an you won't live ta ba an old ****** :bb: The old *******s here might look you up :skull:

:jester:

As others from the Sunshine State have already stated, it's just too miserably hot and humid to ride much during the summers here. If I get the itch, I'll take the bike out early and get back before noon.

Summers in Florida and equivalent to Winters up north. We spend June through September waiting for that first cold front to come through in October.

Sure Odot, but just moist is that *** cheese? If it's greater than 80%, then you're in serious trouble..

For me, out west riding, 104 is the magic number. More than 104 and the sun glasses are burning, the sweat is running, and it's time for an Odot moment at the local bar..

Dcarv............yer right.......it's not who rides most in a day....it's he who actually rides.

Oh, atgatt er not.

oh,....nevermind the drunk.....he's just blabbering.

tomorrow is supposed to be 98 with equivelant humidity...that's too hot!

Heck, I just ride.

Well, sometimes I fall off, but mostly I just ride.

Tomorrow is now today and we're calling for 97F with 80% humidity and a heat index of 103F...TOO HOT!!! Fortunately I am Mr. MOM for the next week and am grounded from doing much traveling. But if I could, I'd head north and cool off a bit.

Toecutter, you heading to the Sierra's to cool off? I know you can expect at least a 10F coolness at Shaver Lake. More if you head up to Courtright.

Maybe I should elaborate a little. For local riding, which I dislike anyway, becomes obsolete when it's relatively hot. If I'm taking a trip, As long as theres no snow on the road...I'm game.

I guess now's the time for us northerners to speak up. Rode to work this morning and it was a bit cool at 60. It's supposed to get up to a balmy 80 by the ride home. Maybe I should look into one of those cool vests  Oh ya, sure, you betcha and don't cha know.

When it hit's the 90's here in CT it is usually too hot for me to go for a pleasure ride.

Also when it's in the 90's here the humidity is typically rather high and uncomfortable....like today.

A better day to go fishing and for a swim.

On last years trip to CO there were a few days that were in the low 100's but it was a drier heat and that was easier for me to take, but it still sucks some of the life out of me. I did wear a cooling vest on those days.

I just came back from a ride through northern MI and it was perfect riding temps for me, low to mid 70's everyday. Locals told me it is not always like that but I was in the right place at the right time. :D

Since you wear a Stich, have you tried the "wings" that Radman posted up? These will blow air right straight up your open stich arms. Additionally, the more backpressure you have from the windshield, the more the "wings" blow air on you. They, coupled with a wet vest, are the best money I've recently spent.

Discovered the answer to this yesterday: rush-hour traffic at 5 pm with gloves, full-face, mesh jacket, jeans, & boots with the thermistor reading at 99-101 (heat index in the 110 range) sucked like a singularity. Trip back at 7 pm with the thermistor reading at 95: when moving, cool enough to put my sweat to good use. Likely these temps will go up correspondingly (inversely? proportionally?) with lower humidity & some wind.
