How is the giddy-up-and-go on the FJR motor, 0-80mph?

I'll make the analogy that the FJR is wild just off idle then goes berserk when the rpm's reach 5k to red line.

Y'all are terrific with adding to my understanding of this cruise missile. thank you!

This fat, old, gray hair guy puts his '04 through the lights around 11.2 sec @ 121 without doing anything to kill the bike. If I really got after it I'm sure there are sub 11.0 runs in it. The most notable thing is how easy it is to get off the line. When I run against people the first time I usually beat 'em down the track because they were shocked at the 1.6x sec. 60' times and it put them off their game plan.
VERY nice 60' times! I struggled to get to 1.7 seconds on my ZRX. Must be because I'm only starting to get gray hair. :)

LOL! I'm 100% down with that analysis. SOLD!!!

The FJR's "giddy-up-and-go" inspired my avatar.
I have one that is nearly identical!

At 6k, the FJR runs like Barry chasing a newly shorn sheep on the open plain.

...like Don behind a wagon train of galloping burros.

...like Howie trying to catch the short bus if it was turbo charged.

If these analogies don't spell it out for you, nothing will.

I don't think you'll be disappointed with the power of an FJR. I have both an FJR and a Triumph Sprint ST 1050. Frankly, the Sprint feels weak in comparision to the FJR. The Yamaha pulls harder at low RPM and then comes on at higher revs. The Triumph is more linear, but not as strong anywhere in the rev range as the Yamaha. BTW this is all seat of the pants assessment; not based on performance data or a drag race...
The 1050 is no slouch of a motor either! I would have kept that bike if the wind didn't go right up into my helmet and make me more deaf than I already am!
Ear plugs are your friend for the life of your hearing. No helmet it quiet enough to protect your hearing against the long term esposure of overpressure from the wind as you ride.

I always wear ear plugs.

Got my bike today and can now comment on the power to the collective. I'm still running break i rpmsand it passes withnl ease on the expressway. Thanks to your input i was not surprised, I was relieved. More tomorrow after another ride!!!

The FJR pulls like a freight train and goes from 0 to illegal in very short order...that pretty much sums it up. And yes, it does feel like you've been shot out of a cannon.

+1

I've never whacked the throttle to full on my '09 AE at low speeds in low gears... I have rolled it on. It is NOTHING to go from 0 to 60. When passing on a 2-lane highway, even shifting down to 4th and giving it some gas puts you over 80 before you get back into your lane. This thing is the motorcycle equivalent of a cruise missile. I'm sure there are faster bikes out there, but nothing in its class is noticeably faster, and anything noticeably faster is not well-suited for sports touring.

I love it when some tool pulls up besides me with a Porsche and revs his engine. See ya!

Howdy y'all. NOOB to your forum but not to bikes. I'm about to drop the coin on 2013 model and bring her home.
I don't need to do a bazillion miles an hour, BTDT. I make it a point not go over the ton too often, because I wind up getting lectured by angry folks in uniforms and it puts a damper on my bank account. I do like to go out every now and then and hooligan it up. I love "torquey" bikes, because they let me feel like I've been shot out of a cannon when I vigorously exercise the throttle hand. Going from 0 to the legal limit can be a blast (pun intended) if you have the proper number of stones in your motor.

My ZRX1109 with the ZX-11 cams and one tooth down in front was probably the best motor I've owned for doing this, although my Falco and Sprint ST were not too far behind. I'm ready for some comfort in the form of better wind protection and the FJR has the fairing and ergos to get that done.

My question? How is the giddy up and go on this 1300cc motor, around town, when you don't care about fuel mileage and the roads are empty?

Just thought I'd comment on my own comment after getting back from a ride. This bike is pleasingly fast. Satisfyingly quick. Capable of rocket-like launch velocities. In fact, I have to say, once you find the right RPM for each of the 5 gears, there is power-a-plenty to get gone in a HURRY. I have not tested top-end just yet, but I have tested zero to generally acceptable speeds and I'm quite pleased. Best of all, you can ride this like a a granny when you want! The FJR is just as comfortable plodding along at sight-seeing as it is at becoming a blur.

Good enough that after almost 5 years, it STILL puts a smile on my face and a nice sensation in my gut! :D

Littlefish,

Your "baby" ZRX (ALL 1100 ZRXs were babies) with the ZX-11 cams was worth about 120hp, give or take, assuming you improved your fueling. Otherwise, with stock jetting and exhaust, MAYBE 115, so compare that to the FJR's STOCK 145hp.

No contest, actually, even given the almost 100 pounds of weight difference. That extra 30hp whomps the 100 pounds. :D

My 135hp ZRX 1200 will eat a Feej for lunch, and happily consume the bones, too, but only up to about 140mph, when the gods of aerodynamics are doing their best to kill me. THEN the Feej will say "bye-bye....."

Bingo!

After only riding the Hondapotamus for the last 10+ years, it's a no-brainer when it's time to pick which bike to take out of the garage. The FJR wins nearly every time. (My bride, who lives with almost no use of one arm, isn't interested in anything but the back seat/throne of the G'wing).

Your 1200 only has 135 rwhp? tsk... tsk... My cam'd 1109 dyno'd at 140 rwhp!

Oh, yeah, sure...make fun of the defenseless guy...

Not surprising, coming from a fleet of douchecanoes. :finger: :****: :finger:

I remember riding with a buddy who has an FZ1. When we would turn onto a new road for instance (say, after a stop sign), I'd punch it to force a smile
smile.png

After the ride, he told me he couldn't keep up when I did that. It was mostly a gearing thing, but I'll take it either way
smile.png
I had a FZ1 and a FJR at the same time the FZ1 would out perform the FJR.
