I ordered the RAM (RAM-B-342U) stem mount so I could attach my smart phone. I took my 2017 to the local Yamaha dealer so they could remove the 36mm nut cap and he said the rubber RAM mount sleeve will not fit into the hole because there is a metal something there and it can't be removed.

I called another Yamaha dealer (MotoCityAnthem) and he said the 36mm nut cap is not suppose to be removed because it is vital the bike's operation.

Do I need to send my RAM stem mount back?

Who is smoking what?

My newest is a 2013 and I just removed my 36mm and installed a Motorcycle Larry nut / ram ball..

and the universe is well.

I don't have time now to research part numbers.. but me thinks me smells dead stinky dealer fish here..

I couldn't agree more and it won't be the last time.

Time to check out Larry's nuts. I mean Larry nut / ram ball . . .

Okay Dave, I checked (the late) Larry's site and found the "triple tree ram ball nut" and the "ball" had to be ordered separately.

Are you saying all I need to do is remove the existing 36mm nut on the bike and this "tree ram" replaces my nut? It sounds too easy if that's the case.

If you're not fixated on the stem mount, you can always put one in the stem hole on the right hand side that's set up for the ball mount.

I got one of the Gerauld ones that bolt to the 2 tank bolts up front for my 05. Works great.

I have that spot covered already. Thx

I just might go with the motorcyclelarry option if all it takes is removing the 36mm bolt cap and replacing it with his "triple tree RAM ball nut"

Unless the latest FJR has a different steering head set up than my 2014 ES all you need is the ram ball nut and stem with ball. Remember the nut needs to be torqued to 85 lbs/ft. The dealer should know this.

Will this Larry's Ram Nut fit my 2006?
THX
Hi Clintster11, I received the following from Dianne Wilkin at motorcyclelarry.com but I personally believe it will fit all 2003 to 2017 FJRs:

We make a replacement stem nut to replace the oem. It's drilled & tapped with a 3/8-16 thread to accommodate a Ram-B-236 ball. Check out part # 7001 on the website. We began selling these in 2007 so I don't think this is a new issue on the 2017

Thank You,

Dianne Wilkin

You will need a 36mm socket for removal of the existing stem nut and put on the new one.

One advantage to the Ram-Bone is that the GPS will not move with the bars. Another is that you won't need to buy a large deep 36mm six point socket to tighten the stem nut (deep socket to clear the ram ball once it is permanently installed).

Also, if you are considering getting bar risers, some of those riser plates have threaded holes in them for screwing in a ram ball. That is what I have done with my HeliBars riser plate.

I had my phone down close to the clutch reservoir, but after moving the bars back I found that my view was partly blocked by the chin bar on my helmet. Fixing that got me started trying to find a position with the best sight line. I found a sweet spot where the phone is high enough that I can see it well with a minimum of eye shift, and it's the right distance for my bifocals. It doesn't block the tach, and it clears my laid-back windshield at full down position and full turn of the handlebars. I'm calling it a poor man's HUD. :) I used 3/8 rod, but one could get the same position with RAM parts. The little clip on the shaft is for a hydration hose. Bottom line - higher is better IMO.
