I have the front right "dashboard" cowling (ahead of the battery compartment) off my 2008 FJR. I am doing some repair to the mirror which is attached there. I would like to disable the windshield auto-retract (and then replace the stock windshield) but I cannot ID the proper connector which I believe is accessible thru this opening. Attempts with the maintenance manual were unsuccessful. Prior discussions mention a jumper which can be disconnected to accomplish this but I am not sure i see it. Any advice on how to find this jumper? if i cannot ID the jumper I was also wondering if there is another way to keep the windshield up. can you keep the windshield up with the bike "on" with a battery tender connected so that the battery isnt depleted during this process? i admit to knowing only enough to be dangerous. thanks

Here is something that is not common knowledge. If you cut the tape you will find that that connector is only a dummy plug, only a 1/2" loop shorting the ciciut. if you pull it from the tape you can clip the loop on the dummy and run those wires to a switch. So... you can have the auto retract and a fixed position setup at the flip of a switch!

Sorry, can't post the pix I took.

I had a devil of a time finding the right connector on my 08? I was about to "cut" the wire as described in an earlier description of how to disable the auto retract when Fred W, who had been trying to help me yelled, "Don't cut anything"! He was right. The connector, at least on my 08 was buried way up in the nose area of the bike and took a little more rummaging around than many here in the forum had experienced? I now use that switched power to activate my power distribution box! I also prefer the windshield to stay put when I stop for gas while travelling? That's my experience anyway?
