How water tight are the hardbags?

On the 9th I'll riding up to UC Santa Cruz for some buisness and expect to ride through some rain. Will my change of clothes and stuff stay dry?

I,ve had 2 fjrs an 05 and an 08 and the bags stay water resistant on mine

Many Iron Butt Rally riders from '07 went through the remnants of a tropical storm where it rained from St. Louis to Boston non-stop and they never leaked. 110,000 miles and not a drop has made it inside.

I don't remember seeing a report from an FJR pilot saying they had a problem. I know myself, I've rode through a few frog stranglers & mine have never leaked.

Shouldn't be a problem so long as the saddlebags aren't overstuffed to the point that they don't close completely when latched. Don't think you could submerge them, but I've done a week in which we got heavy rain nearly every day and nothing inside was even damp.

I road right into the eye of hurricane Hanna in Nova Scotia. Although I was soaked my bags stayed dry!

Thanks to everyone for your two cents! I feel I won’t need to bag up everything inside the hard bags. If I have a leakage problem with them, I’ll chalk it up to a defective seal and go from there.

As everyone else has said, although I've ridden in some nasty chit, never a problem with the bags or Givi trunk letting in water. Now, my riding apparel, that's a whole different problem. But if you're concerned, throw everything in a plastic shopping bag.

If you do try to submerg them It might be a good idea to remove them from the bike first.

Rode to work DURING a hurricane...emergency duty at the radio station...and had to leave the bike parked outside. Nary a drop in the bags. And my FrogTogs kept me dry during a 45 minute ride through 80mph winds and a 9 inche/per hour rainfall. Only things on the road were me, emergency vehicles, and roof shingles from every house in Central Florida.

If your bags ever leak, it's cause there's a hole in 'em, not because the seals aren't up to the task.
