ouchy,954s handle like no tomorrow, really didnt look like he was going in that hot.heal quickly, slow down and enjoy a new bike.that one is toast.thank goodness there wasnt anything coming the other way or its hood ornament city.

Brother Jeff, very glad to hear that Matt is going to be OK! That was really tough to watch and I have to agree with Bill it appeared from film Matt was not overly hot in that turn. Heal Quickly, Matt!

Glad Matt is ok. It's always SO easy to Monday morning quarterback, so here goes.........

Why was he on inside of turn at start of corner?

Possibly initially distracted by cars off to the side?

Looks like he target fixated once things started getting dicey and he crossed the double yellow.

In my not so humble opinion, Matt would benefit from an advanced riding school. He needs to learn how to properly hang off the bike for increased cornering clearance and other benefits if he is going to be riding hard in the curves.

Again, glad he is ok. Poor Honda did not fare so well.

good points skooter,i do know the first thing that happened, was his asshole slammed shut and somewhere in his grey matter there was a small voice saying, shit this isnt good..ouch.(been there done that when a lady turned left in front of me on my brand new suzuki gs 700 es )again glad hes ok and lives to ride again !

Gotta concur.... on the third slo-mo replay, watch his (improperly positioned) right boot almost appear to touch down at the 1:13ish mark, and he immediately picks the bike up at 1:14 while looking directly at the crash point. Fairly classic target fixation.

Sooooo glad he did not get seriously injured... could have been much more uglier....

Poor Honda did not fare so well.
Many Hondaphiles still consider the CBR929/954 series to be the last great sportbike Honda produced. I miss my CBR929RR terribly. :(

Check the condition of the front tire at 1:37 and a time or two later on. Looks like the tread is gone on the shoulder where the contact patch is on those hard corners. Hard to see it well because jdog and the camera were going by, but it looked like the front may have washed out once Matt crossed over the yellow line. We've all pushed tires too far,** but when the rubber on the front tire is that thin, you better ride a near perfect line, because that contact patch is a lot more likely to betray you if you do anything that loads it too hard or too suddenly.

Hope Matt heals up quick and gets back on. Gonna be a new bike for sure, but I hope he doesn't go strafing twisties with a front shoe looking like that again. (I learned a similar lesson when a bald front tire was a contributing factor, with my bad decision, in my last real get off -- in '77 on a Kaw Z1. But I wasn't smart enough to be wearing gear then, and polyester office slacks won't keep asphalt and bare ass apart.)

** I'm counting by lucky stars, because I rode 36 two up in May leading the Wheaties rolling cluster feck with front and rear tires that looked like that by the time we got to Red Bluff and Highlander pointed it out to me. My bad for not checking them carefully that morning before we took off, but I rode the rest of the way home bringing up the rear of the group.

Jeff, this is disturbing!

Oh Boy  You guys out on 33. This is a fun(cough)/ tough road with lots of pebbles from the cliff tops dribbling down all the time. Sometimes it's icy in early fall/winter, and late spring, especially over the grade and down toward Lockwood Valley and New Cuyama.

Glad to hear Matt is OK. He desperately needs some chicken soup. <_<

WOW! I'll concur with what has been said so far. Glad he's ok! Head contacted the ground etc., good thing he was ATGATT.

Kudos to Mr. Reflex Jeff for avoiding the carnage. You could have easily been collected in that mess.

Ride safe you guys.

+1

It appears to me he shifts his body weight opposite to the bike lean, first in the left-hand sweeper, and then in the right where he lost it.

Counterweighting is good for control in slow speed turns, not so good for taking curves at highway speed.

Also, he seems to apex too early in the curve. A delayed apex would mean entering the turn a bit wider, achieving a smoother, and ultimately safer line through the curve.

Hope he heals up soon!

+1 hope he heals quick, I have to agree his body center line was way off to the left. It did not look like he went in too hot, not any hotter than Jeff, a bad lines for the entry and bad front tire.

You did a great u turn!

Like everyone else said, Matt needs to hang off. He was leaning his body the wrong way in each corner. Keeping his body upright is fine for dirt riding, uturns and parking lots but not at the speeds you hooligans were going

Just goes to show Honda's do not make good rock crawlers.

Wow, that was not fun to watch!

was there a hot girl or something in that bunch of cars on the left? The rider got out of whack and then drove into the wrong side of the road. No excessive speed that I could see.

Glad he is not hurt too bad.

Concentration might have kept him out of that mess!

good luck with the new bike.

Be careful!

You may be right, I think I saw a red and white 50's Corvette as the first parked car. That would get my attention for a split second.

Glad he is going to be OK. It kind of looks like the group of cars right before the bridge caused him to glance away and loose focus on the turn. Then right after that he is target fixated on the left side of the road. I was struck by the fact that Matt appeared to not be looking to the right through the turn.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the curved bridge because those things spook the hell out of me, whenever I approach a curved bridge I slow down...a lot...and it appears Matt was trying to do the same without using his brakes (I didn't see a brake light. After that he lost focus on holding his lean to make the curve. Once you start drifting to the outside on a uncertain surface it is very hard to bring it back.

It didn't appear that Matt was knocked out, what did he say about what happened?
