Just last week I put a new rear tire on, an Avon Storm. Friday I leave to go to meet a friend in Orange Beach Alabama. Pretty uneventful ride, but I got to try out the new Tourmaster Transition jacket. I get within sight of where I was going and coming out of a turn if feels funny as she comes back up straight. "What was that" I think, then it comes to me. A flat. I have never had a flat on a motorcycle before. "Crap" Then I remember that I had for the first time ever put a tire repair kit and a compressor in the saddle bag. So I stop, get in fire ants, fix it and ride the last mile to my destination.

This morning I get up and my buddy and ride to Pensacola (so he can go to the Harley shop) Tire is good. I leave from there to come home. About 40-45 miles I hit the Mobile Bay Bridge and as soon as I did I knew what was happening. Since there is nowhere to pull over safely I keep going across the 2 mile bridge and pull off on the other side. At first I thought I had blown the plug out from the day before but as I roll the tire I go past the plug and there it was, about 45 degrees from the plug, another hole. Now what are the chances? The tire is pretty much shredded but I plug it and get to the local Yamaha shop, Hall Motorsports, and buy a new tire. It's not a brand I would intentionally buy, Continental, but it is what they had. They put it on and in about 45 minutes I was on my way.

Then, wouldn't you know it, it rained on me for the next 110 miles.

Two tires in one day, two flats in two days. Don't think I am going to hit the casino's anytime soon.

I would go kick that dealer in the nuts. If I'm not mistaken the storm is covered by Avon's road hazard warranty.

Mark,

Your events re-affirm why I chose to spend the money on a quality tire pressure monitoring system. Now that I've had one for almost a year... I will never go back to running tires blind.

Hope you have better luck in the future,

WW

Well I can't find it on Avon's site, but that tire should be warranteed: clicky.
I have found a little about the warranty and will pursue it tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up, I didn't know any motorcycle tire company did that. I will post what I find out here.

Thanks again.

Call Avon's customer service, I have heard very good things about them.

Well, I have been talking with Avon this week. I had to go back to Mobile and pick up the tire cause when I left I didn't have any idea it had a road hazard warranty. I got my dealer to endorse the paperwork and I faxed it off. Now we just wait and see if they replace it or if they find some reason to wiggle out of it. I will keep everyone posted as this progresses.

Today I got a call from my dealer telling me that my tire was in. I was surprised it was so fast. I gotta say that I am sold on Avon customer service. As an added bonus they even sent a pre-paid UPS label for me to return the damaged tire.
