Well after my trip around Lake Superior (1,742 miles) last weekend I’ve decided it’s time for a new bike!!! I did this trip on my 02 Honda F4i w/out my wife. I’m looking for a bike that my wife and I could both be comfortable on for longer trips, yet when it’s just me I could have fun in the twisties with the guys.

My top contenders are in order are:

FJR

Victory 8-ball/Hammer.

Concours

I know the victory’s that I listed not sport touring but I’ve always had my eye on them!!! :glare:

So if you guys/gals could give me any input that would be great. I’m looking for used as my budget is up to 8k.

This next weekend we (wife and myself) are going to go try to test ride both the FJR and Concours or just sit on them and feel them out.

Thanks in advance :clapping:

The new Connnie is awesome, but more expensive to maintain. Ask your service guy about a spark plug change for example. And everytime you fill up, better reach for the deep wallet, Premium gas only. Of course I'm partial to FJR's but I do have lots of other bikes in the stable so I'm not truly 'kool-aided' out..

Hey New Guy....that fellow that posted right after you, DCarver, is one of the most knowledgeable, well respected members of the forum.

When we go for rides, we sacrifice chickens in his name. When we wish for great Christmas presents, the letter starts out "Dear DCarver..." NOT "Dear Santa..." When Valentino Rossi asks for advice, he calls DCarver. When Chuck Norris seeks an *** kicking, he insults DCarver.

In other words...LISTEN TO DCARVER!!!

(just don't ask to drink his liquor!)

When I first stumbled on to this forum it was DCarver who took the time to help. He was instrumental in guiding me through all things FJR.

There is no doubt that without his help and mentoring, I'd be on to another bike, and would have never experienced the utopia of FJR ownership.

RadioHowie is correct: Listen to DCarver, he is the guiding light for all of us when it comes to things FJR.

Better watch out Don. With all this praise the angels will show up and scoop your *** right off the planet and there won't be any FJRs where your going.

Some of this will depend on how you ride, your size and your SO's size. The Connie is a little cramped for some, two up and the FJR can be too. Both bikes will let you know you have that extra weight up high on the back also.

The victory OTOH, will carry the weight down lower and probably offer more space for two. Apples and oranges, but worth being aware off and checking all your options.

Most, (not all), of the happy two up couples on the FJR tend to have pixie sized SOs. Now that I've said that, I know the others will come out of the woodwork to claim otherwise! Still, for me, the Road King was a much better two up vehicle than the FJR. The SO disappeared on the back of the RK. On the FJR, I was always wishing for more room and a lighter SO. ;)

After l@@king around for a bit.... It seems the Con -VS- FJR is a never ending question.

Thanks for the input so far guys/gals

I agree and that's why I kept my Road Star. Love the Feejer but it's my solo ride.

My SO isn't pixie sized (5'7"). Her only complaint is wanting me to get foot peg extenders (which I'm trying to make up my mind which ones to get).

But we've been riding the 2008 FJR going into our 3rd season, and she still tells me if I ever get rid of the FJR and get a loud pipe V-twin type bike (which I never would), I can ride it by myself.

If I had the choice to make again, I'd still buy the FJR1300.

I'll be the one to disagree, but with a qualifier. My wife is 5'7" and pushing 200lbs (don't even get me started there :( ) and there's not enough room for us with the stock trunk installed. The only way the FJR works for us is because I customized a mount that moves the trunk back about 2 inches and gives us more room. So it's like many complaints: they can be fixed through Farkling! :yahoo:
